Spellfire/MericlessFollow

#1 Jul 21 2008 at 6:28 AM Rating: Decent
I'm nearing level 70 and its becoming time to gear up for end game progression, I know that heroics to end-game etc but I have a quick question. I know that the spellfire set is a T5 equiv (or so I've been told) but is the cost/time worth it? Also how does it compare to quick rewards like Mericless peices?

I have no problem grinding out the materials but I'm a little worries that the pieces will easily be replaced and thus making my time not worth it (happened with my holy pally).

PvP gear often puts a lot of the value of the gear into resillience. For example, the merciless silk rainments vs. the Spellfire Robe. The spellfire robe has a ton more +damage plus it has a 3 piece bonus that rocks. That's why there is PvP gear and PvE gear.

Use PvP for such, and PvE for such. Few exceptions exist (the PvP neck used to be very good as well as the PvP belt, but both can be replaced with PvE counterparts these days (SSO neck & Belt of Blasting).

Merciless pieces are for pvp and do not include helpful PvE stats like spellhit and such (except for the weapon). Spellfire/spellstrike set will last you to mid-way through Tier5 raiding. It has come closer to the point where we have to make the decision to progress in raiding or take off for the next few months (or so) before wotlk come out. No one knows an expected or estimated release date, so if you are like me and enjoy the thought of raiding and progression at any level I would go for it.

I've been meaning to make a comparison spreadsheet to show how the PvP pieces compare to raid pieces and what you could assume them equivalent to assuming +hit gems, but I haven't gotten around to it. I will tell you that S3 helm isn't quite as good as T5, as I started on the whole thing and got distracted.
