I could probably go 1-70 without using stealth.

Is it important? No.

Does it make things a hell of a lot easier? Yeah.

See, I am debating about keeping my rogue and have a couple questions. For levels 1-10 or 20 is stealth really important, im at level 7 and it seems like aside from using stealth for a few gathering quests, I dont use it very often, maybe its because i solo a lot. Second, what is a good basic strategy for early fights? It seems like im dragging fights out for longer than they need to be and my health is sometimes at half or less after a single fight.
