I leveled as boomkin, and I currently run heroics and raids as a tree, but I've been compiling a rather decent feral gearset that is gathering dust in my bank.

If I ever decide to try feral for a bit, I'd rather not make a complete idiot of myself. My kitty action bar has two buttons - dash and prowl, and I don't even remeber when I last updated my bear bar. With the perpetual tank shortage on my server, I'd like to have the option of respecing if it ever becomes necessary. I know there's a lot of written info out there about how to tank, and I plan to peruse it, but there's quite a gulf between reading and doing. Is there a way for me to practice tanking that won't have four people wanting to murder me?

I'd offer to tank some low 60s instances with a group of appropriate-level toons, explaining your situation so expectations are set. Pick instances in which you're comfortable with, especially the boss fights. I like Ramps because I know it so well and it's easy to find groups. At 70 with a "rather decent" set you should be OP enough that you won't require excessive healing (but some), and your DPS should be relatively easy to outpace in terms of threat.

That'll help you get down your technique in terms of pulling, holding aggro on a second mob in addition to your primary tankee, and not breaking CC. Then step up to level 65 instances, etc.

Do you happen to know what your taking stats are in bear form, tanking gear and feral spec/talents?
