Druid tanking vs. Warrior?Follow

Well, I don't want to be a druid newb, but I need help. I primarily play a priest, so I've never worried about tanking before, but my server is low on tanks so I wanted to roll one. A pally isn't for me, so I'm stuck between druid and warrior.

I want the druid in case I get to 70 and relize I don't like tanking, bam, I'm a healer. And the versatility- at level 40 I'd love to heal instead of tank without changing spec.

My problem here, though, is rage. Druids can only gain rage from hitting, not being hit like a warrior. I've read guides on druid tanking but they didn't really answer my main question: Is not getting rage from being hit hard to deal with? Like, do druids have a harder time tanking because they can't get as much rage as warriors? I don't really want to be a warrior, but if they have less trouble tanking I would.

Sorry if this question is answered somewhere, I spent a few hours looking and didn't find it.

I'm not sure where did you read about Druids not generating rage from taking damage (while in bear form of course), that is incorrect, at least, unless changed in the recent patch or two which I've been missing (though I haven't read anything about it).

Have fun,
Yuval.

As a 70 druid tank meh self I have never once (on a boss fight) ran out of rage. Most of the time I'm spaming maul because i have so much rage!
and doing 300-400 dps XD

Yeah that's just flatout wrong, OP...we totally get rage from being hit. Blizz hasn't and couldn't change that with a patch, either, no way.

It's possible that the person you were talking to meant that we generate less rage from inbound hits than a similarly geared warrior because we have so much armor, and don't have a talent to auto-generate rage every couple seconds like warriors. Warriors have a lot more tricks up their sleeves while we tank more through brute force (armor and HP) and damage output. Warriors handle magic damage better and are a little better at holding threat on multiple mobs thanks in large part to Thunderclap. We deal best with physical damage because of our armor. We excel at building a boatload of threat on a single target...we can certainly tank multiple multiple mobs fine, it just takes a bit more skill.

I've never had a problem building rage either...unless of course I'm in a party with chucklehead DPS that peels secondary mobs off me reducing that inbound damage/rage. But that's a party problem, not a class problem.

I personally recommend you roll a druid because of the flexibility you seem to want. Not only can you respec to heal really well at any point, but especially since your main is a priest you'll be able to heal instances (up to but not including heroics) without respeccing. Oh and by the way as feral you'll deal nasty enough damage in cat form that you can solo/level like a madman and crank out solid DPS in instances too. It's a win, win, win proposition.

As the others have said, druids do generate rage from taking damage. Personally, I think druid tanking might be a little less complex than it is for warriors. No shield block, no reactive abilities, no switching stances to use things that you can't use in defensive stance, losing all your rage in the process. Just mangle, lacerate, swipe if you need to, maul if you have more than 60 rage (number varies between different tanks). Soloing is also easier as feral than prot.

Oh thank you all. I have been told by alot of people that druids don't generate rage from being hit, but none of them have ever really played a druid tank, so that makes sense. I know I'm a little ignorant regarding druid stuff.

But that sounds perfect then. I played a warrior to 18 and already the class was getting a little too complicated for me. Druid tanking sounds less complicated. Thanks for your replies. :)
