My very first character was a Paladin. I started playing not quite a year after the game's launch, maybe even as little as 6 months after launch, not sure. Anyways, I leveled her to 42 over the course of a few months, 3-4 months, when I then started losing interest in the game. Groups were troublesome to get, paladins weren't well-liked, and solo grinding was getting to be slow.

I was kinda a newbie at the time too, made noobish mistakes, didn't know where to do good leveling, and the friend that got me into the game, left for other servers, and greener pastures. Long-story short, I had severe alt fever, made quite a few of <Lv10 alts, and then eventually set the game aside (but never did quit it fully).

Fast-forward a year or so later, I learn my GF has started playing, so, I join on in, make myself a new character on a new server, and eventually wound up taking him up to Lv70! But, today I was sitting here thinking... you know, a Lv42... she's well over halfway to Outland, I could put her to some good use. So today I put in for a paid character transfer (avg wait time 10 hours, BLEH!). But... I haven't so much as touched a paladin since the first year after the game's launch, and I know they have changed so much since then, and my character... I haven't touched her in ages, I don't even remember what she's really got, or anything.

I know her talent tree is wiped, that much I know for sure, and she has fairly weak gear, except for that 2H mace that drops in Scarlet Monastery, off that guy in the Cathedral, I forget what his name is, Migraine or something, lol.

So, anyways... any hints/pointers/etc you guys can give me? I checked the sticky, but it didn't really give me much in the way of talent builds, though it did offer some other general information... I'm thinking of Solo PvE the whole way up to the late 60s at least, and then see how she goes, maybe I might start grouping with her, or I might just use her as another crafting mule. I already have a Miner/Blacksmith on Moon Guard (the server I am transfering to), so I am going to definitely drop Blacksmithing, don't need two of that ridiculous money-sink craft, probably replace it with Jewelcrafting at first, and then dump mining (I have a 70 Warrior who can mine what I need).. not sure what else I'd pick up...

Anyways, any suggestions/etc are appreciated! Thanks in advance!

For solo PvE you should just spec Ret. Things will go as fast as possible for levelling a Paladin that way. Once you hit Outlands, you will have to decide whether to stay Ret, or go Holy or Prot.

All of the stickies here should be VERY helpful to you. I especially recommend starting with CapJack's Paladin Sticky. Easy to read, but pretty darn in-depth.

I hope you find that you enjoy the re-birth of your Paladin!

Definitely keep mining. The sheer fortune to be made from it while leveling is not to be underestimated.

For your other profession, engineering is supposed to be quite handy for a paladin. What are you planning on doing endgame? Tankadin, healadin, retadin? Engineering lets make you level 62 BoP epic goggles, with a meta socket (!), and there's one for each of these roles. You can also make a pair of +45 stamina trinkets that only have an engineering requirement. Two of those at level 50 is a ton of extra health for the level - though be warned it'll take a relative fortune to do if you don't go mine all the khorium/adamantite yourself.

Of course, if you just want to get as much money as you can while leveling and truly level professions at 70, then grab skinning for your second one. It's quick and easy to get up to par and not a bad moneymaker. My paladin had 900g at level 48 just from skinning, mining and selling random greens.
