Prayer of mending - How does it pick?Follow

Is it completely random? At first I thought it was, but since i have gotten it and have used it for a little while, it seems more intelligent than 'random'

I've had quite a few times now where everyone is within its bounce radius, and two different people have aggro. In this case it was a Prot pally and a druid who was 'offtanking'

The cool (and I thought 'odd') thing was, it kept bouncing between the two of them. I prayer of mending the tank, he gets hit, bounced to the druid, the druid gets hit, bounces back and continues till it expires

Then later the warlock pulled aggro while it was just the tank with aggro on everyone else, and it bounces from the tank to the warlock (at this point the warlock dropped aggro, and it went to some random member)

Was it just a lucky set of bounces (I thought it was but this has happened a lot of times over hte last few days) or does it bounce to members with high threat? Or low health? (doesn't seem this way, it only hit the targets with high threat)

Even the description of the spell doesn't mention anything about it being random, it says
Quote:
Prayer of Mending (Rank 1)
390 Mana 40 yd range
Instant cast 10 sec cooldown
Places a spell on the target that heals them for 800 the next time they take damage. When the heal occurs, Prayer of Mending jumps to a raid member within 20 yards. Jumps up to 5 times and lasts 30 sec after each jump. This spell can only be placed on one target at a time.

Just wondering *gently pats healball*

I don't have a clear answer on this but from my own observations (rather than any facts I know about) it seems to jump to the person nearest to the target at the time it is cast or it next jumps. Sometimes for example if my tank runs forward and I run ahead of the ranged group to cast PoM before a fight and then move back it'll jump to me despite me being at the back by that time, conversely if I've cast it on a melee heavy group it won't ever leave melee range.

From my observation it jumps to a person with the lowest health. If everyone's topped off it seems to jump to the nearest group member.

Ok, so its not 'random' then?

Whatever the case, its an amazing spell

I believe it takes health and aggro both into account, though I'm not sure in what situations it would go to one person and not another. For example, a main tank, and offtank, and a warlock who just Life Tapped and is above the offtank in threat, I *think* it would still go to the offtank but I'm not sure.

The target it picks is usually a good one (one on low hp or such), but at times it sucks. Like I post in the other topic, I combine PoM (on myself) with SW:D for some damage... what happens a lot is that PoM jumps to the tank and then goes straight back for me, forcing me to go SW:D again once the cooldown's gone to force a jump.

I've never noticed it taking aggro into account. In my experience, it always jumps to the person missing the most health, which means all too often it just sits on a Warlock.

Within its range, proximity isn't a deciding factor. It often jumps from the tank to me, skipping all the undamaged melee and pets. It seems to choose me as the target if no one else is damaged.

I don't notice it so much in raids, but in 5 mans, when the rest of the group is on full health, it will jump to the last person who took damage. Or so it seems to me ...

But yes as far as i am aware and from my own observations, it smart jumps to the nearest person with the lowest health :)

@emmitsvenson - I think your right, it does seem to be the lowest health

Which... is usually the life-tapping warlock /sigh

I read somewhere (I don't remember where, but you know) That it goes for the person with the highest threat, then the lowest health.

Like, in a 5man, if only the tank has aggro, and you put it on the tank, it will bounce to the dps/healer with lowest health. If they are all full, it will bounce to the one with the second highest aggro.

This is what I've seen from my playing, too. It's awesome when you have an offtank and it bounces between tank and offtank.
