Ive already taken up alchemy, but am looking for another crafting profession, I was thinking leatherworking, or engineering. After looking at all of the armor I can make, I was maybe thinking of skinning instead of buying everything at ah. But should I go without the alchemy buffs?

depends on your (server's) progress, if you can access high end LW recipe's i'd say go for LW for PVE, the armor enhancement thingies don't hurt either. Mostly, if you don't plan on high end raiding and actually being able to roll on LW recipe's you might as well just get herb to cut down cost.

Alchemy (for raid pots) + LW for PVE, maybe ENG for the goggles.

JC + ENG for PVP. shadowsong panther trinket +
goggles or quad goggles= win

My 2 cents anyways.

For leveling, herbalism/skinning.

For PvE, engineering/LW.

For PvP, JC/engineering.

End thread, discussion over.

The rocket boots will be out of arena soon. The X11 googles are nice but not so fantastic (I'll replace them with S4 soon and I'd go for the S3 ones if I could not bet the S4). The X44 are very nice but also VERY hard to get. I don't even think any guild on my server has dropped the schematics so far. So pretty much forget about them unless you're in a super hardcore PVE guild. With the rocket boots gone and the googles not so useful (or the X44 too hard to bet), there's no much left.

I'm rerolling a rogue now (need a 70 HUMAN rogue to bring to 80 when the expansion is out!) and I chose: enchanting/mining. When I'm at max level (be it 70 or 80), mining will most likely become JC and not engineering.

If you're are lvl 70 now, I'd recommend enchanting/JC (not engineering):
- enchanting because you get a unique boost (ring enchants) and it's very convenient to bee able to desenchant your loots and enchant your stuff yourself... it's also a huge money-maker;
- JC because the shadowsong panther trinket rocks and I guess it's like enchanting (convenient and a nice money-maker, although I have never had it).

Right now im at level 10. I dont want to take up 2 gathering professions because I really dont mind buying supplies at AH. So far, all I see are goggles and practice locks early in the game doing any real benefit for engineering. But I could be wrong. Alchemy seems really cool because of the defensive buffs you get and ive leveled my skill to 72.

But Alchemy is one of those skills that is easy to level compared to enchanting or engineering. Should I stick with alchemy for the buffs, and take up LW for the armor? Then, when I hit a higher level, take up engineering or enchanting? I am a solo PvE-er and dont plan on PvP for quite a while. In the long run which would provide more benefits?

Ive taken all the things youve said into account, any more advice you can give? Thanks.

In the long run, 2 X gathering professions wins. The money you make with selling all the ore/herbs/skins will give you a very good income. It will be enough to buy the pots you want, plus AH armor plus more if you want. Keep in mind that although the slow landmount skill is cheap now you still need to save for the epic landmount skill and your riding skill in outland.

Levelling is a lot easier since the last patch(es) and you'll outgrow whatever gear you craft very fast.

Powerlevelling whatever you pick as craft prof is a lot easier at lev 70 especially if you haven't bought too much stuff from AH and all that you gathered.

In the end, you should take what you want.

LW
JC
ENG
ALC

If you're a solo PVE'er, then your best bet is Skinning/Leatherworking. However, unless you have lots of gold (off a main for example), you're going to start struggling to get things off the AH to suit your budget. (however, if you have a main with that amount of gold, you would know the answers to your question already)

The low level mats are plentiful and relatively cheap, cos there is lots of it around to help gathers start off in their chosen peofession - not so with you higher level stuff. Quite simply, you can level to around 150 in pretty much any proffesion in the wink of an eye ... it's starts getting nasty after that, and the push from 250 to 300 can be downright suicidal (30g a stack of rugged leather, and I didn't get a single point out of it at 267, on a recipe that turned yellow at 265 :-< )

The way I see it with Alchemy is that it's helpful for raiding, cos everyone needs pots and buffs (you included) - no buffs = bad dps.

Leatherworking can help you keep relatively abreast with gear you can make for yourself ... it's not uber, but it's passable, and more than enough to keep you going.

If you suggest 2 gathering professions, would skinning and mining be the best since only one tracking can be done at a time and skinning doesnt require tracking. Or since im going to be an alchemist later, would herbalism be better than mining or skinning?

Leatherworking is pretty much the ultimate PvE profession when it comes to things that are easily accsesible, Engineering is probably better if you include the Sunwell Goggles.

LW= Drums

Drums=Awesomeness

Thus LW = Awesomeness

4 LW in your melee group = awesomeness^4

Ah, but you're forgetting grenades and all the neat things that come with engineering for the BG grinds. Makes BG grinding way more bearable.

I do agree though, enchanting is a viable alternative to engineering for PvP.

BTW, the goggles are the best helm in arena until you can get S3 or S4.
