Right now im at level 10. I dont want to take up 2 gathering professions because I really dont mind buying supplies at AH. So far, all I see are goggles and practice locks early in the game doing any real benefit for engineering. But I could be wrong. Alchemy seems really cool because of the defensive buffs you get and ive leveled my skill to 72.
But Alchemy is one of those skills that is easy to level compared to enchanting or engineering. Should I stick with alchemy for the buffs, and take up LW for the armor? Then, when I hit a higher level, take up engineering or enchanting? I am a solo PvE-er and dont plan on PvP for quite a while. In the long run which would provide more benefits?
Ive taken all the things youve said into account, any more advice you can give? Thanks.
If you're a solo PVE'er, then your best bet is Skinning/Leatherworking. However, unless you have lots of gold (off a main for example), you're going to start struggling to get things off the AH to suit your budget. (however, if you have a main with that amount of gold, you would know the answers to your question already)
The low level mats are plentiful and relatively cheap, cos there is lots of it around to help gathers start off in their chosen peofession - not so with you higher level stuff. Quite simply, you can level to around 150 in pretty much any proffesion in the wink of an eye ... it's starts getting nasty after that, and the push from 250 to 300 can be downright suicidal (30g a stack of rugged leather, and I didn't get a single point out of it at 267, on a recipe that turned yellow at 265 :-< )
The way I see it with Alchemy is that it's helpful for raiding, cos everyone needs pots and buffs (you included) - no buffs = bad dps.
Leatherworking can help you keep relatively abreast with gear you can make for yourself ... it's not uber, but it's passable, and more than enough to keep you going.
