Can someone please explain what the exact nature of the "Vanish bug" is.

It's existence, and discussions about it, have (for some reason) become a little more prevalent on blogs and forums of late; And I must be honest, I can't say I've noticed it bugging for me in any way, and I use it a lot (I still think I'm a warrior and believe I can take a beating ;-> ).

I'm guessing it's related to Vanish not working in certain circumstances (and not if you have a DoT on you - that goes without saying), I would just like to know what those situations are.

I have, in all likelihood experienced it, but have not noticed it.

The only instance of this I've noticed is that I can vanish, and sometimes a hunter's pet will stay on me. (This is without Hunter's Mark up.) I'm sure there's more, but that's the one I've encountered.

There used to be something with two rogues pulling each other out of vanish when their hitboxes touched, or something similar to that, but believe Blizz finally acknowledged and patched the problem. I've noticed that if I CoS/Vanish (I removed the macro after several mishaps) out of multiple dots in a BG that occasionally I'll get pulled back out of stealth, but quantified it as a lag issue rather than a vanish bug.

vanish has a few problems.

what seems to be the problem is if there are a lot of actions happening at once, due to lag and such, when you hit vanish the vanish gets put somewhere in there. in the time you hit vanish, and vanish actually activates, sometimes the way attacks come in will be out of order and will knock you out of vanish.

the other big bug i noticed is hunter pets still following you regardless of this bug. that one is complete BS especially when its a BM hunter.

'The vanish bug' basically means when you vanish, it should work (I.E. no DOTs/effects on you) but it doesn't, you simply enter stealth and leave it again right away. I've actually had it happen twice in a dual yesterday, and twice in 4 arena games as well. It's particulary annoying.

I suppose it's unfixable (unless the rogue gets 0,5 sec of complete immunity) because when you get hit and you vanish, server lag sometimes puts the vanish first, then the hit, resulting in your stealth getting immediatly removed.

I've never had much problems with it but for me it definitely still exists; in fact, it has never happened 4 times on one evening for me before like it has yesterday.

There also used to be a bug that if a warlock or hunter spammed their pet attack button as the rogue vanished, their pet would stay on the rogue and knock them back out of stealth regardless if the rogue blinded/gouged the pet prior to vanish.

Unaware if it's still in the game.

It is, it's happened several times to me. Seeing a raptor run at me from mid to DR in EOTS when I'm stealthed w/o a mark on me sucks.

Don't mistake the vanish bug with pets chasing you when you stealth tho. When there's a pet coming for you while you are OOC and you do a normal stealth, the pet will keep chasing you. IIRC that's been confirmed to be "working as intended".

let me expand.

Every action we do in wow is a button click ofcourse. Latency is the time it takes between our click and for the message to reach the wow servers for it to react ingame.

Now the problem here is that lag sorta messes with vanish in this way. With a the relative times and latency of your vanish and the enemies attack. Whats more is your at a disadvantage against AI enemies, who the server can shoot off actions immediately [no latency issues for mobs] while your vanish takes 0.5 or 0.3 [from what i understand every 100 latency is = every 0.1 seconds of lag in terms of button clicking to action occuring time].

Now if you count in the slight server lag, your lag and a load of enemies on your ***, your vanish is toast. I ussually justify this by thinking "hey if it was real life with loads of frenzied enemies, they would have a chance to hit me through the smoke", though its just me justifying a BS situation.

Theres no real way to solve this sorta problem.

Whats annoying is how hunter or warlock pets sometimes follow and attack though it seems you set off a vanish from a good distance. But iv

I do know that hunters/warlock pets still stay on me sometimes when I vanish. Another bug (kinda) is if a hunter/warlock sends a pet at me and I enter stealth normally the pet still attacks me like I never went into stealth. For instance, the other day I was in AV and I always stealth up to North and South Bunkers to cap them so when the rest of the raid gets to Vann it shouldn't be that long of a wait for them to cap completely. If you have ever done this you know that you take a ton of damage from the archers and sometimes the npc's/owls and rams that are right by IWB(I think). I go the back route to come up by the Aid Station, but I always stop on the other side of the pillar for the bridge to eat. I dismounted and clicked my food and stealth at the same time and the next thing I know a hunters pet is attacking me. So, I killed the pet and then got out of combat and finished eating. Things like that shouldn't happen. Stealth is very key for a rogue, and when we enter it pets shouldn't be able to see us anymore.
