A guildie told me that trinkets don't cause threat, which makes the Darkmoon card I've been putting together mostly worthless. Is he right? I've never heard it anywhere before.

I have never heard this, and I can't possibly believe it to be true. There is a reason the DMC: Vengeance is one of the best Paladin tanking trinkets, and not just because it has high stamina.

EDIT: typos.

Trinkets don't cause threat; people using trinkets cause threat.

This message brought to you by the National Trinket Association.

Seriously, like Maulgak said, the first thought that came to mind was the tanking DMC, whose sole purpose is to cause more threat. I've also known tanks with engineering to pull with their rocket launcher; that trinket definitely causes threat as well. I also have trouble that all the on-use boost-your-DPS-for-15sec trinkets give a threat-free buff to the player.

Look at your combat log.

If it says something along the lines of "Your xxxx does xxxx damage (*School*) to xxxx" you are getting threat for it. Checking Recount's attack breakdown can help for this as well, where the DMC:V definitly appears, and so is attributed to you in the log.

Also, heals/regens that DON'T have a name attached to them (or have your name) attribute threat to you as well. Spiritual Attunement for example doesn't have any name paired with it but gives you threat, and Lifebloom is described as "Your Lifebloom". Attacks against the enemy that DON'T include your name don't cause threat though (at least for you).
