Having posted in another thread about the use of these I thought I might actually see how they are used and if it would be worthwhile for my guild mages.

Until recently we've generally only had 1 fire mage on raids, but one of our mages has recently respecced back to fire and I was wondering if it would be worth them using a scorch rotation when there are two fire mages in the raid.

I'm not sure what they do at the moment, but I assume both of them just have their own FBx7/8 Scorchx1 and spam merrily away.

So I'm thinking of two possible changes:
1. One fire mage keeps up the basic rotation and the other gets to go crazy with FBs, keeping one of the mages dps constant and boosting the others (I assume). If the scorch stacker dies the other mage will need to go back to keeping it up (any simple timer mods for this which are easy to configure and won't cover half the screen with crap?).

2. They both lengthen their scorch rotation:
Mage A 3x Scorch, 7/8xFB, 1x Scorch, 14/16xFB
Mage B 2x Scorch, 14/16xFB, 1x Scorch

Again returning to normal rotation if one dies. I'm a bit worried about resists (though I guess the mage that is currently redebuffing would be responsible for making sure it's there) and also during stages where you can't dps (would both mages just scorch as soon as possible to make sure it goes up and then act as though it's the start of the boss fight?)

Or maybe I'm over-complicating things, it's just as we're moving further into content I want to make sure my mages are competitive with the other dpsers, at the moment I'm the only one consistantly near the top of the meters.

I've raided with multiple fire mages and I am glad to see you are actually thinking about this. My suggestion is to (if you haven't already) grab Quartz. It gives a good numerical debuff timer that also works with a focus macro (say if you need to keep something sheeped).

So that takes care of the number, my next advice is to pick one mage to do the normal rotation and have the other just go crazy with fireballs and not worry about scorches. Personally I would take the mage with the higher DPS to NOT keep up a scorch rotation so he is free to use trinkets every time they are up and not have to worry about throwing scorches in. This should result in an overall DPS increase for the two of you combined.

Take note that in raiding **** happens and you may lose the scorch stack. A badly timed boss AE or silence or movement needed and down it goes. So if this does happen (which shouldnt be too often) have both mages keeping an eye on it and both should restack scorch so it is back up quicker. Hope this helps.

scorchio is a great little addon that tells you how many scorches are up and how long you have until it needs renewing. It tracks all the scorches on the target (not sure if all mages need it or not because all the mages I raid with have it). It completely simplifies scorch management. Usually we have 3 fire mages. Everyone scorches at the beginning until 5 are up then one of use uses 7x1 the others just FB away. We take turns with scorch duty. Works great.

Umm i had a quick question about this scenario myself, a bit of a thread hijack but kinda along the same lines. If there are more than one mage in the raid, would it be worth one of the mages to speccing out of improved scorch so they could allocate the talent points somewhere else. Not exactly sure where but just a thought. Any more learned mages that could shed some light?

Definitely not, what do you do if that mage D/Cs, dies, is on a different target, or cannot make it that night?

Find Scorchio.
I loved it. Tracks multiple targets, lets you know how many and the duration of any scorch applied.
might want to turn it off in BG's and such, as it tracks any scorch anywhere. But in raids its worth its weight in gold.

Cheers I'll look up Scorchio and suggest it to the fire mages (I'm sure I've tried Quartz and didn't like it for some reason, but maybe I'll try again).

The only problem now is that the mage with the higher dps is the one I really don't like, but I don't suppose there's an addon that will help with that.

Nope, though mafia connections might work wonders.
