Woot my Mage and I hit 1680! Almost got boots! (then we dropped down to 1640, argh)

That aside, what keyboard buttons do you guys keybind to? What would be good to take off the keyboard to replace with a custom keybind? (thinking about takign off A & D because I never turn left and right with the keyboard anyways.

So far my n00b setup is:(old habits are hard to break)

Stealth Bar:
1 - CS
2 - Garrote
3 - Sap
4 - Premed
5 - Ambush (hardly used)
6 - Shdwstp

Action Bar
1 - Hemo
2 - KS
3 - Evis
4 - Gouge
5 - Kick
6 - CloS
7 - Rupture
8 - Deadly Throw
9 - Trinket
0 - Shiv
- - S&D
= - EA

so far I have keybinded
` - EA
middle mouse button - shiv

What keybinds you guys use? Any tips to improve my game I'd appreciate it.

get yourself a bartender like program that lets you bind to the spell book. it also lets you remove the default action bars and create your own.

find a spot on the keyboard your comfy to place your hand, around the wasd keys is usual because we've used them for year and its second nature to most now.
personally i us the keys between 1 and f on the keyboard giving me 12 bindings and am with reach of shift and alt giving me 24 more options. i can also tab if needed. binding these keys also eliminate the urge to us the keyboard to turn as all the binding have been removed.

I only use 1-5 and QERFCV + their alt/shift derivatives. It allows for a fairly large amount of variation without actually moving your hands too much. Plus it stops you accidentally blowing cooldowns if they're all keyed to shift + something.

I am having trouble placing Shadowstep anywhere now that I've specced sub. I bound Q to stealth, and ERFCV are all finishers - eviscerate, rupture, snd, kidney shot and deadly throw in that order - and my 1-5 buttons have all my special attacks, like hemo, gouge and shiv and that. It's uncomfortable putting it to alt/shift because it needs to be twitchy, but I can't find a button that isn't occupied already >.<

Hmm, thanks for the tips. I do use Bongos currently and love it.

123456
rty
fgh
F1 F2 F3 F4 F5
and shift, ctrl and alt modifiers

I'm left handed, playing with the arrow keys + 5 button mouse.

Normal hotkey bar (Stealth)
1 =
2 =
3 = middle mouse = Cheap shot
4 =
5 = mouse button 5 = Premeditation
6 = insert = Garotte
7 = page down = Ambush
8 =
9 =
0 = N/A = Distract
- = delete = Sap
= = page up = Pickpocket

Normal hotkey bar (Unstealthed)
1 = N/A = Hemorrhage
2 = N/A = Shiv
3 = middle mouse = Backstab
4 =
5 = mouse button 5 = Gouge
6 = insert = Kick
7 = page down = Trinket
8 = shift+delete = Blind
9 =
0 = N/A = Distract
- = delete = Deadly Throw
= = page up = Throw

Lower left actionbar
1st slot = unbound = The useless poison eviscerate thingie
2nd slot = mouse button 4 = Eviscerate
3d slot = \ (location above my enter key) = Kidney Shot
4th slot = shift+mouse button 4 = Rupture
5th slot = shift+mouse button 5 = Expose Armor
6th slot =
7th slot = unbound = Slice & Dice
8th slot =
9th slot = home = at the moment Engineering Grenade, will be Cold Blood or Shadowdance when WOTLK comes
10th slot = end = Shadowstep
11th slot =
12th slot = unbound = Berserking

Lower right actionbar
1st slot = unbound = Feint
2nd slot =
3d slot = shift+home = Preparation
4th slot = unbound = Vanish
5th slot = unbound = Sprint
6th slot = unbound = Evasion (I usually click all these moves)
7th slot = unbound = Cloak of Shadows
8th slot = unbound = Healthstone or potion
9th slot = unbound = Bandage
10th slot =
11th slot = unbound = A macro I don't even remember the use of
12th slot = unbound = Lockpicking

Then I use the two sidebars on the right for profession icons, mounts, food and poison.

As you can see there's a lot of gaps in my interface... This is mainly because I like to keep things ordened. I started of placing each skill into a respective category (CC, damage, escapeskills) and kind of stuck with that. Stealth things are on my stealth hotbar, combo point generation stuff is on my normal hotbar, finishers are organized on my lowerleft hotbar and escape moves on my lower right. I later bound my stuff to it as I saw fit. Some things just feel very logical... Mouse button 4 = damage (eviscerate) and shift+mouse button 4 = damage over time (rupture). It's basically the same thing as my priest there... he uses Mouse button 4 for DOT and shift+Mouse 4 for rank 1 dot. Mouse button 5 for AOE and shift+mouse button 5 for rank 1 AOE.

Lol at binding things to the mouse wheel. How do you zoom out? Using the smart camera I guess it isn't a problem, but that creates a world of new problems (you can't watch behind you without holding the caemra in place).

Why do you need to zoom in and out?

I keep my distance fixed, though I rebound my zoom in and zoom out hotkeys to more out of the way bindings.

I have camera style set to never follow, so the camera leaves me alone when I want to rotate it. the side effect is if I enter a house or w/e I get zoomed in, and it won't zoom out again when I leave.

If I could make it let me spin and always zoom out as much as possible it;d be great.

I prefer to have zooming around too. Specially since I also play a healer I zoom in and out a lot to increase overal vision/focus on one target/object.

On a sidenote though;

People seem to bind certain skills to shift+key, control+key or alt+key. How? Whenever I try to bind something to alt+key it automatically turns into control+alt+key.

The nether drake is much larger than regular flying mounts, so you need to zoom out every time you mount up in order to really appreciate it. Otherwise you're just a dude riding a shark head.

I use Eon's binding's as well, and have most everything bound to the mousewheel. Zoom in and out is control + Scroll since I just zoom all the way out and then leave it.

I have had problems with that binding though. Most everything is bound through Bongos3, but I went into interface to bind the zoom but it doesn't work.

Oh well, like I said, I never zoom in outside of looking at the details of armor or taking a screen shot.

For mouse wheel bindings I have:

Stealth:
Mouse Wheel Up->Distract
Mouse Wheel Down->Cloak of Shadows

Out of Stealth:
Mouse Wheel Up->Kick
Mouse Wheel Down->Cloak of Shadows
Mouse Wheel Click->Vanish

Only thing is that sometimes kick doesn't quite go off as I want it to, though I atribute that to trying to kick with not enough energy more than the mouse wheel.

In terms of zooming I stay zoomed out to the full max so thats no problem.

My camera doesn't spin and doesn't have the problem you describe. I'm generally zoomed out pretty far, but for instance running into the alliance base in WSG doesn't do anything to how my camera is, it basically gets stopped by the walls while I'm in there, then zooms back out when I leave.

It doesn't snap back to place behind my toon, either, I can run for days with my camera facing behind me.

Maybe you got a warped one. Smiley: tongue

Hmm, let's see. This is the setup I use currently. I don't have any special action bar mods, it's all stock. I wanted to post this cause it didn't seem like much fun to bounce ideas off ya'll without offering what I had.

Stealth:
1 - Cheap Shot
2 - garrote
3 - sap macro
4 - Distract
5 - premed (when specced)

Action bars:
1 - Sinister strike
2 - shiv (crippling)
3 - kick
4 - rupture
5 - Slice n Dice
6 - Shiv 2(Wound/deadly/mind-numbing, depending on what's going on. I have a couple off-hands but only carry one with me)

Shift+1 - Sprint
Shift+2 - Cloak of Shadows
Shift+3 - Pvp trinket
Shift+4 - Blind macro (Target=Mouseover and calls out who I'm blinding)
Shift+5 - Vanish
Shift+6 - Evasion

Alt+1 - Eviscerate (yeah, I know, I don't use it that often)
Alt+2 - Gouge
Alt+3 - Kidney Shot
Alt+4 - Feint (Hardly used in Pve, obviously never used in PvP

Ctrl+1 - Abacus of Violent odds (if equipped)
Ctrl+2 - Blade flurry (if specced)
Ctrl+3 - Expose Armor
Ctrl+4 - Envenom (in the rare event I have deadly poison up, which I really should do more often)

F1 - Adrenaline Rush OR Shadowstep depending on Spec
F2 - Blade Flurry + Abacus if specced and equipped OR Premed if specced.

Middle Mouse Button - Stealth
B - Self-bandage

So far this has been working pretty darn well for me.

EDIT: Didn't add dsitract to my stealth actions, hehe.

TBH n52s kinda suck for WoW. I could never use one. Smiley: frown

Well Theo, it could be put to use depending on the class. A good friend of mine in my guild swears by his n52 while playing his warlock but admits he can't do a damn thing with it on his rogue.

I mean, I gave it a shot once (stole my buddy's) but they're just no good from a rogue perspective. But WoW players in general may have decent use for it.
