hello mages i come to you for some advice just to get the ball moving.

I just hit 70, gonna make spellfire set, i just need to know what to gem it with ive seen mages goin all +9 or higher spell damage or ive seen them going for the + hit so which is right?

This toon is my alt but i wanna be able to do kara if theres an opening, im currently speccd frost but i only did that to farm all the primal fires i need.

Lol my head is spinning atm from all the crap i gotta do on this toon and i always keep second guessing myself like.. do i want frost or fire that was a tough decision but fire won. I also picked aldor but im not even honored yet so i can switch that to get the trinket ect.

But basically i just need to know what gems to get to put in there im guessin my best options are spellfire and spell strike set till i get some badges.

Thanks for any advice in advance since i may not be ablet to check this for a bit

Get +hit until you are hit-capped. Then, go for +damage.

If you want to get into raiding with the mage you will want to build up your spellhit. Now, when you start out you will have a fairly low amount of spelldmg, which is where we recommend new 70 mages to go to the 40/18/3 build to get some extra spelldmg from the arcane tree until you have about 800 unbuffed (not including mind mastery damage) fire damage then you can go into a deep fire build such as 10/48/3 or 2/48/11. Now the 3 points in frost are for elemental precision, you will want to be working towards getting spellhit capped which is 164 assuming you have all 3 pts in elemental precision. You can get spellhit on your gloves (+15 I believe) and continue to gem until you get at least around 100 to start kara, as you are in there you will get other pieces and badges to be able to buy better gear to move on.

Anobix said it -

I'm in the same boat - just started gearing up my mage for raid level.

A few things I've noticed that might help:

1. Get the spellfire set. (takes a while)
2. Farm for primals/run the dailies and get money. (A lot of stuff can be bought) My primal loop is up on the ele Plateau - I take down the Fires, then hit the Air while waiting for respawns. Easy enough to do & Air sells.
3. Pick up the quest to kill Overlord (Google it) and get the trinket. Quick and easy.
4. Stay frost before switching to his Arcane spec. Basically - I'm farmer spec at the moment.
