Leveling as HolyFollow

I started as Ret to level 40 then went with Prot and loved it until I rolled a hunter which became my focus. Now I am going to play with my pally here and there and level using Holy mainly in instances but I'll throw in some quests here and there.

I know I've seen people say they leveled as holy from 0-70 so I was wondering how in the world you killed mobs. I know its going to be slow going but like I said, this is just my fun relaxing toon.

I assume judge crusader, then seal righteousness, holy shock and pound away.

um, instances as holy are awesome. questing as holy leveling up? not sure thats my idea od fun and relaxing... except you won't killing things at a fast pace, so that might be relaxing. i leveled my first pally as holy from 10-70. 80% of my leveling past about lvl 30 (when being holy really started to slow down for me was in instances. the rest was questing with a ret pally and a mage that were questing buddies of mine. i killed things mostly by flash of light and holy light on those in my party ;) but that was just me. if you're gonna do it solo you can have a much easier time by gearing smarter than me. get any caster gear you can for when soloing.

kinda. my rotation when i need to kill things is to pull with divine favor/holy shock, and just use seal and judgement of righteousness. when i fought elites that lasted even longer (dwarves in wetlands are the only ones i can remember...) judge crusader. the rest of the time i find that after a holy shock and judge of righteousness they prolly won't last long enough for JotC to be worth it... but thats just my opnion. if you aggro a few mobs (3 or more) consecration is prolly worth the mana cost.

Yep, that's it. Work in a Hammer of Justice from time to time, Exorcism if applicable, Judge righteousness before it expires. If burning down a mob fast is at all important, use Consecration to get the job done even quicker. Hammer of Wrath is great once you get it. Cast a flash of light or two on yourself, then move on to the next mob. Wash, rinse, repeat x25000 or so.

I think one aspect that bothers people about leveling holy is the boredom factor. Nothing of substance in your fighting style changes between Westfall and Winterspring.

Final note: a good two-hander is probably better than a sword and board (you don't have any special blocking talents and the stats on oldworld shields are something to sneeze at). The speed of the weapon is more or less irrelevant.

thanks for the 2 hander idea, will keep an eye out. I know that this isn't going to be as easy/fast as my lock or hunter, I just want to try something different when the time calls for it. I healed my first BG the other day and it felt great (and we actually won....alliance here).

Yes. When I leveled holy i did put some points into improved riteousness and crusader as well. And used the best two hander I could find along the way for soloing and the more appropriate shield/one hander for healing instances.

At 40, you'll want the blues from SM cathedral boss (shield, healing one hander, two hander).

At 47, I really enjoyed blacksmithing weapon Truesilver Champion which procs a holy shield (more time dpsing instead of healing).

Actually; I found that a fast 1 hander gives you the most DPS while used with JoC and SoR. A 1.5 second sword vs. a 3 second 2h weapon will give you double the procs. This also makes it easy to beat things with high armor. Get as much spelldamage as possible.

First - SoR doesn't proc. The spell damage from SoR is dependent on weapon speed. The slower the weapon, the more the DPS you get from the seal. The only time SoR will give you more damage with a 1H is when that 1H has a ton more +spell damage than the 2H. Otherwise, a 2H will benefit more. Either way, no 1H with good +spell damage are available until OL.

I also leveled as Holy. I used to start off all fights with JotC, and then found out that it was a waste of mana (unless you are fighitng an elite). Like others have said - JoR/SoR will be your bread and butter. Make sure to spec Imp Righteousness.

Divine Favor/Holy Shock is a mana killer, but very nice for burst damage.

Make sure to keep plenty of water on you for you will be drinking a lot. The faster you kill, the more you drink.

Also, at lvl 51, don't forget to get the Ice Noob Spear from AV. It will get you to Outland faster than anything else out there.

Relative to your lock and hunter, you are going to be killing slowly. That's just the way it works. It's a good idea to run mainly instances (like you said). That way, others will kill for you :)

I levelled my first pally 1-70 Holy with almost no instance runs, and my 2nd from 60-70 Holy with a handful of runs(first 60 levels were Ret... which was a lot quicker). In both cases I did a lot of it using a 1H and Shield. (sidebar: I also levelled a Prot Warrior 1-70, and back when I played FFXI I was a Galka WHM/BLM... For whatever reason, when it comes to MMO's I gravitate toward doing things the hard/tedious way).

The thing with Holy levelling/questing is... its not 'hard,' so much as its just kindof slow and often not very interactive.

But... once you get to Outland, the instance XP (as has been said) is incredible and you should have no problems getting into groups. Plus, you'll need/want the gear from instances b/c Blizz took the holy stats off of a lot of quest reward plate a few patches ago. I'd definately say that (Holy+Instances) is the way to go.

I am currently level 43 with no real special gear and taking on mobs of 2 or 3 about 2-4 levels higher than me, you don't lose very much from switching to holy from ret, i used to have to drink after every mob with my ret spec but with holy my mana pool stays up longer and i am critting 526 with holy shock and thats my second main source of damage, the thing with holy is your survivability is a lot better. it may seem like a pain at times but its all your preference. Don't let other people tell you how to have fun, if u like ret stick with it.

Peace

*I is a smart noob lol*
