Frost bolt and ice lance macroFollow

#1 Jul 12 2008 at 5:48 PM Rating: Default
Hello, I was just wondering if anyone can help me with a macro I want to make. I want a macro that just spams Frostbolt unless the target is frozen then I want it follow the Frostbolt with an Ice Lance.
Thanks in advance for any help.

I don't think there is a modifier for [iffrozen] or whatever, I think you will need to push two buttons.

Anobix is right, macros cannot check for debuffs on your target.

One thing you can do is get an addon to notify you when a target has a certain debuff and put it in big letters across your screen. A good one for that is something like MikScrollingBattleText Then, when you see the big text, pound your ice lance button.

Why do you need an addon or macro for that? Once you see the mob has stopped coming toward you and is frozen... just click/spam click the "Ice Lance" button so it will go off right after the "Frostbolt" you're casting and watch 5-6k damage pwn them in a matter of 2.5 seconds. Right now for me at 750ish + spell dmg with the trinket buff I get around a 3.3k FB then a 2.2k Ice Lance if they both crit (which they should)

Oh and for those of you that don't know. Ice Lance travels through the air significanly faster then Frostbolt does, which is how you can pull off managing for both spells to hit the target while frozen.

Sometimes you're not only watching your own target... think arena, think adds, etc.

Most of the time that frostbite/frozen will proc will be off of your own cone of cold/frostbolt/etc though so I would think that it would normally be your target. Unless it procs off of ice armor then you will have to cilck and cast.

First of all its impossible to make that macro, like anobix said, you cant check for a debuff on a target.

More importantly:
To clarify the GREAT point that Degortuna made but Im not sure he made clear enough. You pretty much never want to automatically ice lance your target once it freezes (making this proposed macro a bad idea). Its a waste because what you should do is - loose one more frost bolt and right as its done casting throw out an ice lance. That way you can get a double hit on a frozen target as frostbolt has traveling time while lance instantly hits, both will still hit as if the tartget was frozen. Leading to massive burst damage if both crit (they do, alot, and its awesome).

Sorry if you alredy knew this but, if you didnt I hope it helped.

(if anyone who reads this could private message me to tell me how to set up those cool sigs - Annobix im looking at yours - I would much appreciate it)

You have to be a premium member of the site (pay a small monthly [or 6-month] fee) and you can set it up.

Sure, most of the time, unless you're in arena, then it's that pesky rogue that just was hacking up your backside who is frozen. At any rate, it is a decent mod to tell you things like when some target gains or loses some buff or debuf (for example, when Cloak of Shadows is no longer up). My point was not to say that what the OP was wanting to do via a macro was doable... it isn't. Just another tool he could use to see that easily.

Nuff said.

Not to split hairs, but top rank frostbolt can be quite difficult to get off in an Arena setting after a Frostbite proc. For starters, the freeze effect is much shorter than a Nova freeze effect. Secondly, you open yourself up to a variety of defensive moves(shammy shock and/or grounding totem, warrior reflect, felpuppy spell lock, rogue deadly throw...). Often better to throw a rank 1 Frostbolt to keep 'em slowed and follow it with an Ice Lance.

Note here regarding grounding totems--it will eat up both your Frostbolt and Ice Lance if you follow the standard shatter combo formula. Watch out for them bastids.

Here's a thought for buffing mages in Arena--change Ice Lance so it can proc Frostbite. Yeah, so that would be a bit OP...but aren't we due?
