suppression only counts for afliction spells... so yeah it's NOT a replacement for +hit. you still need 202 as anything between 40 and 60% of your total damage as an afliction lock is from destruction spells.

Yeah. Personally I consider points in suppression to be a waste. Even as affliction a large portion of your DPS comes from shadowbolt so you need 202 hit regardless.

To provide some context -

Hit cap against raid bosses is 202. 5 points in Suppression means you only need 76 hit rating to cap your Affliction spells. As you find gear/gems that have hit on them, you can start taking points out of Suppression and put them elsewhere, according to the following -

76 hit rating - 5 points Suppression to cap Affliction spells
101 hit rating - 4 points Suppression to cap Affliction spells
126 hit rating - 3 points Suppression to cap Affliction spells
152 hit rating - 2 points Suppression to cap Affliction spells
177 hit rating - 1 point Suppression to cap Affliction spells
202 hit rating - capped on all spells, you no longer need points in Suppression

Being capped means you have a 99% chance to hit... there is always a 1% chance you'll still miss, even when you're capped.

kokacha.. you're forgetting about DESTRUCTION SPELLS. mainly SHADOWBOLT. depending on gear SB will make up 40-60% of your total raid damage. yes what you said is right but your wording is in such a way that it makes it sound almost alright to care less about hit... you might want to re-word it to emphasise the need for more hit rather than just stating how much hit is needed for X points in suppresion.

No, I think I hit it. Someone already mentioned above that Suppression doesn't affect Destruction spells, and I specifically wrote "to cap Affliction spells" 5 times. I'm assuming the OP is an Affliction lock, as I don't know of any popular Destro builds that bother with 5 points in Suppression.

Agree though, roughly half your damage should come from Shadowbolt (a Destruction spell), and in case there are still any doubts out there... Suppression only applies to Affliction spells. You still need spell hit for Destro spells... in fact spell hit > spell damage until 202 generally, as long as you're not sacrificing major damage for it.
