Hey there, thanks for clicking on me!

I'll come clean, my main is a priest, so I am clueless here. Please bear with me...

There is a total lack of tanks on our server, to the point that we are sharing warriors between guilds, just to run instances. Insane, I know...

Anyways, I've started a warrior and am actually quite enjoying it (aside from the fact that I keep wanting to slip into Shadow mode and blast the hell out of them from a distance...)

But I'm looking for a definitive answer on a tanking build for him - I've been through the FAQ's, which seem great but mostly go over my head...who knew that hitting things was so complicated?! The idea is to get him to 70 ASAP, and then some of the others in my guild will start theirs.

I know that this sounds sappy, but if any nice brutal, bloodthirsty sword maniacs could lend a pointer, my gratitude would be yours!

<Clothy signs out>

Go with a dps spec, arms and/or fury build, until at least lvl 60. After that you can make the switch to prot.

go down the fury tree until you can get 2/2 imp slam at level 32. after that, equip a big 2h and it's white hit>slam>white hit>slam. when you get to level 41, you may or may not want to respec down the arms tree to get mortal strike, but you can also instead keep 2/2 imp slam and spec down the arms tree to get 2h wep spec, sword spec, death wish etc.

as long as you spec 5/5 deflection, 5/5 cruelty, 3/3 imp tclap and 2/5 demo shout and wear decent tanking gear, you should be able to tank instances up to any level 70 regular instance, perhaps discounting Shattered Halls and/or Magister's Terrace.

keep in mind that the prot tree is most useful for its increased threat generation from defiance and shield slam and emergency button in last stand. the differences in health, armor and block% can be compensated for with gear to an extent... for instance, if your gear is good enough to main tank kara or 25 man raids when prot-specced, for the most part you should be ok to offtank trash in a dps spec.

I personally hated Slam Spec, but my weapon kind of sucked for it. I went with DW FUry I'm loving it so far. Get some bandages one hand, very useful.

Really? I went DW for a while, then switched to Slam Spec.....wow. What a difference. 3 hits would kill most mobs my level. Plus, I would barely use any rage at all (as DW, I would constantly be empty, but as Slam, I would almost always be full). Plus, I barely ever had to use hamstring because 98% of the time they go from >20% health to dead.

Of course, I have since switched back to DW, and love that too.

Both are awesome.

Definitelly go for ARMS or FURY specs. You ll never XP with a protection WARR becuse your attack power is much degrated in protection -so soloing is not an option- unless you allways have a party waiting
for you if you go for instances.

Talents more or less are equal on both Trees. I prefer ARMS. Do not chage your talents unless you are 60+ (And only if you know 1st :your guild is full of 60+ players 2nd: YOu have a lot Priest friends...)

I wouldn't sweat #1 and #2 myself. I agree with "don't respec Prot until Outland" However I've level ground 60-66 so far and I can take most elite boss world quest monsters solo. Dev, Block and revenge are a potent mix against most mobs and you have the amazing "Oh crap!" button of Last Stand. Add a good offensive shield and it's just like DW.
