Pet Loyalty QuestionFollow

I have a question about pet loyalty. Until today, I have had a boar as a pet. I had him since level 50 and I have kept him through to 70. His loyalty level is 'Best Friend'.

Today I saw some cool cats near the skyguard daily in Terrokar and decided to tame one. Anyway, tamed a level 70 cat no probs and grabbed some fish to feed him. Got him up to very happy and kept feeding him so he stayed there.

I then went to farm some ogres for Obsidian war beads. I killed enough orges over about an hour to get 30 or so warbeads, yet it still says my pet is loyalty level 1 and 'Rebellious'. This is annoying because I can't train him any skills until the loyalty level goes up.

Does anyone know what might be happening? I know you need a combination of xp, time and happiness to go up a loyalty level, but obviosuly being level 70, I don't earn xp per se'. Any help would be appreciated.

This is normal. It takes much longer for a 70 pet to gain loyalty compared to a pet you are leveling with. Even a pet that is 68 or 69 upon taming will get loyalty faster than a 70 pet will.

Cool. Thanks for the answer.

That is annoying. Maybe I should grab a level 68 pet and level it up.

No they won't Dilbert. :\

OP, you need to get 5% of the xp you would have needed to level. Take your pet into an instance or something and he'll be level 3 before you leave in all likeliness.

Thanks mate. Yeah I did read that.

I was just finding it hard to see how much xp I was getting as I am already 70. I think I will take the pet when i raid kara next week as I am MM/SV spec and my pet isn't that useful. Cheers for the replies.

Don't do that unless your guild has Kara firmly on farm, and even then... sorta leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

So it takes 5% of what would be a pet's level to gain a loyalty level.

A 68 pet has a less total XP than a 70 would, therefore 5% of a 68 is less than 5% of a 70.

Therefore a 68 will get loyalty faster than a 70 pet.

Ain't math great?

Math is great indeed.

I think I've run into the same problem. I'm no good at math, nor do I care. I'm a level 26 hunter that picked up a level 17 crocolisk. This is the pet I've always wanted. It was in WC so I had to lvl up so I could survive the instance by myself (no I don't have friends nor am I good at making them, even in friendly guilds). I probably could have entered WC sooner but I simply forgot by being busy with cooking, leathercrafting, leveling by zone (doing all quest in one zone asap), and real life. Pretty soon I was much higher than I would have liked to have been to catch my crock. Now I'm too low lvl for a Mottled Drywallow Crocolisk, which is the only other crock I was interrested in. And I'm too high lvl for this pretty white one that I adore.

So what to do? What is the fastest way to level up my Deviate Crocolisk?

For a level 17 croc to get to 26 would not take long at all find an area you can survive in that has a lot of mobs that have a decent respawn time and go kill everything thats there ,green preferably as they do go down faster.

My guess is it would take you one level to get your pet the same level as you are Jemcrystal , but thats without questing as it may take a little longer doing quests as they do not help the pet level .

Find green level caster mobs.
Casters because they have low armor and tend to stay in one place instead of run after you.

Cool. Doing that. He's lvl 20 now. Thanks. ^^

So pet lvling is in relation to number of kills and not the action your pet sees? Like using him as tank more and me shooting less wouldn't make a difference? Or, like, if I used him not at all (hypothetically) and ran around killing things with him at my side on passive he would still lvl because of kills I made? Or do kills and pet participation both count on some computer generated percentage thingy?

Your pet gets a % of the Xp you would get from a mob even if it just sits by your side and does nothing but look pretty. If your in a good guild you could prolly have someone run you through an instance your lvl and it would get some pretty decent xp.

cool

I was just standing at the AH and my pet's loyalty went up. I guess time logged in is a factor in loyalty.

Its 'time while happy' that determines increased loyalty, not experience. I've seen my pets get that loyalty increase while doing my auction work too.

I agree that time alone will eventually make the pet more loyal but it always seems that killing things with him speeds up the process. could be that time goes faster when I'm doing something though making it only seem that way.

Rank 3 (Submissive) 5% of hunter's xp at current level 30 minutes
Rank 4 (Dependable) 5% of hunter's xp at current level 45 minutes
Rank 5 (Faithful) 5% of hunter's xp at current level 60 minutes
Rank 6 (Best Friend) 5% of hunter's xp at current level 90 minutes

I'm not sure that's entirely accurate, I've done some testing taming different level pets and getting them to loyalty level 2.
It seems a level <30 pet gains a loyalty level with less than 5% of my XP, they gain a loyalty level after levelling approximately two of their own levels.

I think there is another factor in play.

Interesting. If you find anymore information post it up. I'd be curious as to the results.
