Best build for fighting 70 rogueFollow

#1 Jul 10 2008 at 1:08 PM Rating: Decent
My friend has a 70 rogue which he brags can beat any Priest. I hate when people brag like that. I have priest that is 61. I told my friend when once I get to 70 I would fight him. But I don't pvp much. I not sure which build is best against a rogue who is combat/assassin build. I was hoping some experience preist could me give some suggestion on best type builds use & tactics. Thank for any & all suggestion

Run.

And PW:S on the way....

Sorry to be flip, but a good geared rogue against a good geared priest will win most times...barring some random events.

Good luck!

Well... Get good gear and spec discipline. Keep Shadow Word: Pain and Power Word: Shield up at all times, fear once and hope your friend wastes his trinket, then save fear for when you get in a tight spot. Heal yourself by using renew. If you HAVE to use a heal with a cast time and the rogue is on you, fake cast; start casting a heal, wait untill you're about ~0,5 second into casting it, then cancel it. With luck the rogue will then kick you to block out the heal you just stopped casting and you can start casting a new heal. Just make sure you have your back to him during this time or he will gouge you (gouge is a 'stunning' move that can only be used when in front of the target).

Basically there's 2 things to remember;
-A rogue will wtfpwn a shadowpriest.
-Discipline/holy builds focus on staying alive. That is what you should be doing. Not damaging. Your aim will be to kill the rogue by using no more skills than Shadow Word: Pain (except maybe a Shadow Word: Death to finish him). Your avarage PvP rogue will have 10.000 HP, SW:Pain should take away about 1100 each cast. Assuming one gets resisted thanks to cloak of shadows (which is going to hurt you; a rogue ability that gets rid of all magic effects on the rogue and makes him next to spell immune for 5 seconds), you're going to need to stay alive trough 10 casts of SW:Pain to down him.

Use Prayer of Mending as well. Basicly your going to attempt to outlast him speced disc you'll have your shield damaging him and PW:S on him. And if he is combat/assassin don't worry too much about your back being to him (Unless he is specced combat daggers :O). Make sure you put up renew, PoM, shield and all your buffs before he starts the first stun lock or you'll die right then. If you can outlast his first stun lock and keep up SW:P you'll have to survive only probably at most 2 more stun lock tries, depending on how long the fight is taking. If he vanishes after cloak of shadows don't panic just get buffs up again asap cause another stun lock is coming.

Good luck.

Expect a stunlock. Wait for him to land Kidney Shot, and then trinket out of it. Fear immediately. Puts DoT's up on him and hit him with Blast. Expect him to cloak as soon as he's unfeared. Your job is then to survive the next 24-ish seconds until your Scream comes up again. Shield, DoTs + VE, whatever. Try and stick to instant-casts, or do something like Mind Flay/Blast, wait for him to kick it, and use that time to get off a few heals.

Also, if your friend is a combat rogue, lol. So easy to kill compared to ShS.

If you're not in equal or better gear though, just /forfeit. I can usually come away fairly decently against someone in half-S2, half-S3, about 50/50, but beyond that it's game over.

rouges are the counter to priests. but a disc priest played well enough can easily dispatch a rouge with the damage dealt through your shield and swp alone..

just dont try it on any s3 or above rouges..

I've played both classes pretty extensively at 70, and sadly this is one of the more imbalanced fights in the game. Nothing makes my priest cringe as much as hearing the distinctive *whoosh* of a rogue stealthing nearby.

Like other have said, disc is the spec to be if you want to stand a chance. Shadow priest (which is what I play most of the time) is almost a guaranteed game over if the rogue is anywhere near competent. My shadow priest will get wtfpwnd by rogues with significantly worse gear, and my rogue can beat most priests even if they have significantly better gear (especially shadow, but any kind of priest is one of the easier kills).

Keep shield and fear on cooldown, keep SW:P on him, try to put as much distance between you and him whenever you can, trinket-->fear out of kidney shot, and keep PoM and renew on you at all times.

Oh, and prayer can't hurt either. Not the "of mending" or "of desperation" kind, but the "begging god for mercy" kind. ;)
