Action Bar Order QuestionFollow

#1 Jul 10 2008 at 2:51 AM Rating: Decent
Right now i am playing PvP with my level 29 fire gnome mage.

On my main bar what spells shoudl i put there? They will be the spells that i will use the keys 1-6 to cast.

Is there any addons that i should be using that are good for PvP?

I woudl also appreciate it if you all could give me some PvP mage tips.

Thanks!

Put the spells you use most in PVP there, obviously.

I'm not into pvp with my mage, who's coincidentally dinged 29 this morning, but I would imagine you'd be wanting:

Blink
Fireball
Frostbolt
Scorch
Frost Nova
Escape artist

or something similar.

I assume that is a typo as it says you are a 39 fire mage.

A few things to pick up:

Impact is golden for a fire mage in pvp.

Witch hunter (maybe one word) can be good for pvp as it lets you know what enemies are casting around you.
I personally use Bongos for my actionbar as I can make them whatever size I want and wherever I want them to be.

For your 1-6 buttons (and I recommend using shift+1-6)

up to your decision for order/placement:

Arcane Explosion rank1 and max rank you can use
Fire Blast
Frost Nova
Frostbolt (rank1)
Fireball
Scorch
Blastwave
Escape Artist
Blink

I wouldn't waste time putting up pyroblast on it, as I doubt you will have time for a 6 cast.

Amen. A 6 second cast is an invitation to get silenced.

My UI is a mess so I can't advise you on hotkeys and the like. (For me 1=Iceblock, which you don't have yet, 2=fireball, 3= scorch, 4=AE, 5=DB (was CoC) 6=fireblast 7=poly) However, a few basic PvP tips, many of which you may know:

Avoid casting anything longer than 1.5 secs unless you've already got someone sheeped or you have the drop on an opponent. A pyroblast is an invitation to be silenced/stunned/feared but so is a fireball. Basically, use almost only instant casts, scorch, poly and rank 1 fb (to slow) in face to face combat. I usually only use Arcane Missiles if someone is trying to los me because the missiles follow the target even if it is out of range or los.

Focus on spells that ***** with the other players -- ie, FN to hold em in place, CoC and BW to slow em down, sheep liberally, counterspell when you see an enemy casting (but counterspell the right school -- dont cs a lock's shadowbolt, cs his fear. Don't cs a druid's roots, cs the regrowth). And so on.

And have fun, don't stress about dying.

If you're a serious PvPer, then you'll probably want to rework your keybindings. I typically use only 1-5 since they are withing easy reach so I don't have to take my hand off my movement keys. ALT/SHIFT/CTRL keystrokes are also a good keybinding option. This is my current keybinding that I use (for example, as I am frost and UD):

` = blink
1 = Frostbolt (Current Rank)
2 = Unbound (saving for Ice Lance)
3 = CoC
4 = Scorch
5 = Frostbolt (rank 1)
A-1 = CS
A-2 = Fireblast
A-3 = Poly (on mouseover macro)
A-4 = Ice Block
A-5 = Mana Shield
Z = FN (rank 1)
X = Cold Snap
R = WotF

I know I'm missing a few things, but that's all I can remember off the top of my head.

Thank you this all helped a lot! I am trying to start and use the keys instead of mouse, but it is hard to change!
