How come I'm always seeing pally's top the DPS charts in PUG 5 mans? I've seen them beat my equal level fury warrior and beat my equal level druid. On my last run a 28 Pally out DPS'd my lvl 30 feral druid. My druid is well geared. I'm just curious if pally dps really is bad or if thats a myth.

Were they the tanks? Prot pallies with all their thorns effects do good overall damage while they tank. If they were Ret, dunno, Ret is good, but shouldn't really beat out a fury warrior.

Pally DPS isn't bad, it's just not exciting or super high. It's steady... auto attack steady.

Doesn't seem bad at all. Was sorta dissappointing, having a DPS class get smoked by a pally 2 levels lower. He was tanking but was ret.

At your level is really the highest damage output of Paladins which can be higher than other classes at the time if played right. Remember whenever pretty much anyone says a blanket statement like that like "Ret Pallys can't dps" they usually mean at 70.

And even that's not completely accurate anymore. While not the uber-dps'ers that 'locks, etc, are, patches 2.3 and up seriously buffed Ret pallys by fixing a lot of their itemization, damage stats, etc issues.

As of today, patch 2.4.x, anyone who says "lol pallys can't dps" is stuck in pre-2.3 mentality. Not always top of the damage charts, but still very good while providing good utility to boot (extra blessing, bubble, and 3% crit for all). Plus, stick them with a shammy and arms warrior, and watch their DPS skyrocket.

It's the same folks that probably STILL think pallys can't tank, either ;)

WoW is an ever-changing game. A spec that might have been a joke a year ago can be very viable now. Learn to 'get with the times' or get laughed at.

This I agree with. The 'loladin' mentality is just another example of how much inertia people's thinking really has. Warlocks were at one stage horribly overpowered; in my opinion they've been brought back into balance, particularly since they have no chance against most melee classes, but people still moan as if Warlocks are still the unstoppable killing machines they were at the start.

Retribution Paladins basically require Windfury. Due to Seal of Command (or SoB if you use that) they scale better than most classes with Windfury and it'll land them solidly in the top3 on the meters if they go all-out.

Protection Paladins... man they are awesome. Got adds? No problem, just tank the whole lot. Even their weakness vs casters can be solved with a bit of gear, once you're over the post-70 gear hump and into Karazhan gear a Protadin is an absolute premier tank. Warriors I still think are better on bosses, but you cant beat a Paladin for trash encounters.

As prot i usually pull 700dps for the entire instance in heroic bot and heroic shattered halls, but those are both very prot pally friendly instances(esp bot if you have a priest to mc a mender for that +295 spell dam buff for 30min).

I did a lot of tanking as a Ret in the high 20's up to the high 40's. If you are specced for maximum dps at that level range and using a SLOW 1-hander, a shield with even a cheap iron spike, and using the best auras/seals at your disposal, plus spamming consecrate and going all out to keep the mobs on you, you CAN out-DPS just about everyone else in a 5-man.

It won't happen every time, but you do a LOT of damage that way! It may have also been that some of the "higher-DPS classes" were having to hold back just a bit in order to not draw aggro off of the Ret, so that may have helped his relative DPS numbers as well.

I did a heroic BF run as ret a couple nights ago, averaging about 490dps. I'm mostly in blues. There's several youtube vids floating around of ret pallys doing 1900-2000dps in sunwell.

In short, your ramps pally just sucked.

It's not that I saw this just on my 30 druid, when my fury warrior was 64 or so? same thing and I recall back zul farrak with some toon, lol, seeing a pally cranking the dps, think I was on my hunter. I'm not complaining, I'm just wanting to know if I should roll one! : )

Palys specced/played/geared right can put out great DPS leveling. This plateaus at 50 or so, when other classes REALLY start to overtake Palys. Again with the right conditions though, a Paly can continue to put out some pretty aggressive numbers even after 50 and into Outlands, and up into raids. It is difficult to do so though, despite the ease of playing a Ret Paly, but it can be done.

Melee friendly raid bosses i've seen ret pallys lead raid dps, but its fairly rare. Have to be in a perfect melee grp(enhance shaman, dps warr, feral druid, rogue) for it to happen as well. Some stars/planets may need to align just right as well:)

If it sounds interesting to you, of COURSE you should roll one. If you like it, cool, if not, at least you tried it!

You're not going to get to be a full time dpser as Paladin.

If you want a full time dps character you should probably go with warlock or hunter. Attacking from a range while a pet takes all the damage is incredibly useful when soloing, and in groups you're attacking from a range while someone else takes all the damage. I liked Warlock the most of all DPS classes.

Paladins are ok, they are coming a little closer to where shamans are in terms of having decent DPS and a few really nice abilities to combine with the DPS. (Cleanse, blessing of freedom, you get the idea).
