+healing or mp5?Follow

I'm getting ready to try my hand at healing in heroics. The suggestions I've seen here are to have +1200 healing and +120 mp5. I'm sitting at +1000 healing and +195 mp5. Should I sacrifice some MP5 in order to pick up another +200 healing? Specifically, I have a staff with +50 spirit (and a spiritual guidance/improved divine spirit build), should I drop this in favor of something like the essence focuser?

I'm really trying to stay balanced between healing in instances and my miserable arena team, but I'm worried that I'll just fail at both (I don't mind failing at the arena team).

BTW, I'll be crafting the last two pieces of the primal mooncloth set shortly.

I don't have anything useful to add except that you can always just change gear to pvp (and should).

Are you going to be the main healer?

Spirit is generally more valuable to an PVE priest than its budgetary equivalent in MP5. Not only does it increase your casting regen through Meditation, preists have many tricks to get outside the 5-second rule to get huge non-casting regen tics. Furthermore, you get bonuses to your healing from stacking spirit from spiritual healing and improved divine spirit. With the crazy amount of spirit you have on your current PVE gear, don't worry about MP5 at all. Your regen will be just fine for any heroic. It's your +healing that needs serious boosting to deal with the damage output in heroics unless you have a overgeared tank. Get the +heal enchants to your gloves, weapon and bracers, the +healing glyph on your helm, and maybe even consider trading some of your +spirit gems for +spirit/+heal. Finishing your Primal Mooncloth set will also be a serious help.

For early PVP/PVE dual utility, try respeccing to a Blessed Resilience build. Take up to 3 points in Empowered Healing in the holy tree, including Spell Warding and Blessed Resilience, and up to improved divine spirit in the discipline tree, including Martyrdom and Silent Resolve. This is in no way better than a Focused Will build for PVP or a Blessed Concentration build for PVE, but it's a reasonable compromise that will get you through early heroics and keep you from being a free kill in the arena while you build up your Resilience to 400+. My advice is to find or organize battleground premades to start getting a set of honor gear together, because your arena income will be pretty scanty at first.

Pick your first PVP purchases to supplement your PVE gear and fill in the weak points. The stamina and even the resilience on it will complement your Mooncloth, which is infamously low on stamina.

Thats all good advice from Emmitsvenson. Primal mooncloth set will help to get your healing up, and even give a little extra mp5 boost from all your spirit. I think you'll be ok to start healing a few heroics once you have this.

Other rep items you could grind for are the lower city prayer book and possibly the shattered sun healing neck (the neck you have is pretty good though). I think mooncloth gear rep items will still be worthwhile for PVP, primal mooncloth set isn't great with the lack of stamina.

For sure get the healing enchant on your bracers, that one isn't too expensive anyway. The gloves and weapon enchants are expensive I know, but the weapon one adds 81 healing so is well worth it, while I would understand if you wanted to wait for an upgrade before enchanting the gloves.

Thanks for the responses, all very helpful!

So, when I PVP, I should equip the PVP mooncloth set instead of the PMC set?

Also, is +30 healing better than +4 stats on wrist? I actually have the +healing enchant for wrist, I just haven't done it yet because of the cost.

I am finding that with the 5/5 reflective shield and the huge mana regen, I can grind primals nonstop without eating or drinking. When I get low on mana, the shadowfiend gives it all back.

Yes, absolutely. It has Resilience, Stamina and +healing, which are what you'll need as a PVP healer.

It is for someone in your position of needing more +healing in order to do heroics.

So with 1200 healing and 200 mp5, do I need empowered healing/circle of healing if I'm not raiding or running kara?

You won't really find a use for CoH until T6 raids and higher.

I've been CoH spec since karazhan ;)

I've never been one for PvP, just a dabble every now and again. My last main was a Lock, so really i didn't bother with pvp gear or respeccing, and i still did pretty well. So i assumed it was the same for my priest and i got squished.

A lot :S

So i whined and got frustrated, and then I thought, "ok i'll try this Disc spec and see if it really does make any difference"

Um yeah it did. My survivability increased about 100 fold. Survivability for me definatly outweighs any +healing or +MP5 in PvP.

So in conclusion, like the others said, PvE gear for PvE, PVP gear and spec for PVP. You CAN heal 5 mans and Kara with a heavy disc spec, but you may struggle until your gear gets better, so I would really advise respeccing between PvP and PvE.
