As the topic states, when do i do this? I KNOW if i had 2 pieces of t5 id be all over it.

Armory = http://www.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Arygos&n=Zisikpus

Ok so given my current gear level, should i switch to 40/0/21 (or something else if there is a better arcane spec especially since frost damage is down from arcane). Take the gear and drop the +hit gems for +spell damage gems because of the arcane talent of course. I know of Man out of Time but I couldn't figure out how to do hypothetical.

I know of the pitfalls of arcane being mana troublesome but id rather be going oom with 2 minutes left in a fight than have 1/2 a bar of mana at the end of one.

Thanks in advance

From then until you have 4pc T6, iirc. Then it's back to 2/48/11.

2pieceT5 give it a go. Its fun, change of beat and difficult.

Do your daily's, because all gold earned will be put into mana potions. I went through more mana pots as arcane in one raid night than in 2 months as fire.

Get friendly with your druids so they give you the innervates instead of healers.

Think about avoiding/declicking heroisms at times and/or use evocation at those times.

If your the only raiding fire mage, and you have fire warlocks, recongnize your gimping there dps by having no more scorch debuff.

Use Flame Caps and Destruction Potions as Fire if mana is no issue.

With no spirit gear you'll be going OOM in the first 2 minutes of the fight my friend, not the last two. Get your hands on as much spirit gear as you can, a shadow priest and a shammy if you can. And thats just to make the spec possible, playing it well is even harder than aquiring the gear to make it happen.

Even with everything going against you, i'd still recommend at least trying the switch, its fun and a great learning expierence. Gives a great understanding of the talent trees. Just recognize you may find yourself going back to fire to avoid the headache that arcane is.

Thanks for the input. 2 piece tier 5 it is then a huge headache to re gem and such

If you don't have a shadowpriest I would not recommed going into this, I guess if you are doing the 2xAB + AM + Scorch that could be a bit more efficient, but still difficult to do. If I do arcane blast spam (without any regen besides mage armor) I go oom in about 30 seconds.

To counter the point you made in your original post: Knowing that you have 1/2 bar at the end means that you went as hard as you could the entire time (if you used destruction potions and flame caps instead of mana pots/mana gems). If you can honestly say that, then good for your guild giving you the mana regen, but in my T6 content as 2/48/11 unless I have a shadow priest I am pretty much chain popping both of those potions/gems to not run oom then evocating back up to full (hopefully).

My Guild is currently doing Kael and Hyjal, we downed Vashj,. I have two pieces of T5 and I am 40/0/21. While Mana is something I have to watch out for, I rarely run out quickly. I use 3ab, 2fb. With Mage Armor, Flask of Distilled Wisdom, the fish food that adds mana regen, and depending on the fight, like the Hyjal AOE, I sometimes use Superior Mana Oil. The Distilled Wisdom is especially nice since it fits nicely with the Mind Mastery Talent that increases your spell dmg up to 25% of your total intellect. Those plus the 3 mana gems and the MAD Alchmeist potions keep me going very well. I am always in the top 4 in DPS and in some fights I have gotten to number 2. The mage lead in our guild is always number 1 and he is also 40/0/21. I did try 2/48/11 but threat was always an issue. With this build I can basically ignore gems with +spell hit and concentrate on +dmg and +crit. I am also trying out the gems with +intellect to further increase mana and spell dmg via the mind mastery talent.

I never completly regemmed my entire gear set. But the little i played with +int enchants and +int gems, i decided it wasn't worth sacking the +dmg. When there were no +dmg enchants or what not, i went for spirit/mp5.

I knew a pally who had 17000-18000mana and over 2k in heals. If you can hit that mana pool with still a respectible amount of +dmg, then i can see it being worth it. But i dont.
I dont think the loss in dmg, will be worth the increase in mana.
