As i slowly go through kara with my somewhat sluggish guild, is it that odd that when i look at most drops, i'd really rather have all the leather ones over the mail ones, in some cases at least?
I know leather is ok for hunters in PVE, and i'd never roll against a rogue or a druid for them, but would it be bad for me to go after some of these pieces, or should i try to stick to the realm of mail as i go through kara?

Go for badges... they give by far the better gear.
And yeah, the mail gear in kara is rather sucky, quite a few weak pieces.

Leather gear can be very good, but be careful as it won't have int on it, and you can't ignore that stat completely. It's all about badge gear these days though.
