I am currently using a dragonhawk and things are working well. But recently I saw the turtle and thought he would be good for soloing, but he cant keep enemies attention. Should I stick with the dragonhawk or try the turtle some more? And also, I hear that you should transfer abilities from a lesser pet to a better one, how is this done?

1) does he have Roar?

2) Not all transfer.

check petopia for what pets can use what.

Somewhere under you skill/spells (i think it is the 1st scree when you hit P) there is an icon that looks like a Sling Shot, this is where all skill/buffs/what not a pet can learn (and the amount of points needed).

To learn newer/stronger abilities use your Beast Lore on tameable stuff. It should, if i remember right, tell you what level of a Ability it has learned (if not, just use petopia).
Tame this monster, and then use it to fight stuff.
I never worried about feeding it after taming...if it runs away..just tame another one.
After a few fights you should see a yellow message that informs you that you have "learned" this ability.

It means you can pass it along to other pets (if they are able to use it).

Above I asked if you had Roar on, you can buy it at a Pet Trainer, who are near Hunter Trainers.

It sounds like you are only low level so apart from making sure you have been taught by the pet trainer first.

All you have to do is open your Spellbook?abilities tab go in general section and you will see a beast training sign , not all abilities can be learned by all pets but growl can , also never train cower it is a useless talent.

Read up at Petopia but pet talents for attack power like claw and bite are learnt from beasts you tame , it is a pain as you need to tame other beasts every few levels that have better skills to learn from them retrain your own original pet , but is well worth it.

As a thought if you are low level the Dragonhawk is a castor pet which means it is slightly weaker than other pets , the turtle should hold aggro though if it is the same level or close to you.

There is little difference in pet families so you should be able to level with any pet you like , i prefer boars as they are faster to attack until you can get dash and eat anything so are simple to feed , but as i said any pet is ok or should be.
