Newbie Bear Tank WoesFollow

I'm not sure if this is really a druid question, or a general question for all tanks, but I figured I'd start here.

I've got a lvl 62 feral spec'd druid, but I've almost never grouped with her, as I play off server hours. I also almost never use bear form, since cat generally gets things killed faster when I'm playing solo.

So today I join a group for Overlord, and since the group is me, 2 hunters and a Boomkin druid, we figure it would be best for me to tank and let the Boomkin heal. First time I've ever tanked for a group. Well I go after the boss and am attacking him and everything's going fine, and then suddenly I notice I'm not attacking any more, just sorta standing there dumbfounded. I hit the attack button and get back to attacking, and it happens again. We wiped 3 times before we finally got him down, and each time I noticed this happening.

So is something broken with my interface? Did I do something weird that I stopped attacking (I can't think of what I might have done, but SOMETHING happened)? Or does the Overlord boss have some sort of attack that stops you from attacking?

Any idea what I can do about this, how I can notice it faster, etc?

And additionally, any tips for a newbie to tanking druid would be much appreciated.

Sure you didnt just accidently hit your attack button? I havent fought that guy yet as my Druid is 60, but it;s the only thing I can think of. Sometimes in Kittyform I'll be like Pounce>Mangle then hit autoattack like a moron because my brain keeps forgetting that by hitting Pounce I've engaged the mob.

As for tanking, others on the forum have advised me, so to save them typing it again, I'll pay it forward.

Make sure you have enough rage to keep Mangle and FFF* on cooldown. Excess rage should be spent on Swipes. Maul if you have Rage to spare or get OOC procs. Things get easier at 66 with Lacerate, but til then we're in the same boat.

EDIT: Oh and dont forget Demo Roar. I forget it all the time, but don't be like me. I'm a terrible role model.

*Doesnt use Rage which should make it easy.

If you're a clicker, you might have sticky targeting turned off and you clicked somewhere on the screen. No target = no auto attacks.

I definitely didn't hit my attack button - it's in a very different place on the screen as my bear/cat moves.

(And thanks for the other tips!)

Lack of sticky-targeting it may be the problem. Just checked my interface and I didn't have that checked. Will definitely try again with that checked now.
