/rant on

my guild has a bit of a problem getting people to pitch consistently for raids. we are trying to get a core group together, but with RL always getting in the way it's hard to get the same people in to every raid, let alone have enough players of a certain class. this past sunday's gruul/mag farm, i finally got an enhancement shammy in my group, but we were really short of pallies and had only one, and no feral druid for LotP. so...

yay for strength of earth and windfury!

boo for small salv (don't have much of a choice there) without kings nor might =/ and no LotP.

WWS for the entire encounter. disclaimer on Mag WWS: i would often stop dpsing at ~10sec left on the BigWigs timer for Blast Nova so i could click. disclaimer on HKM WWS: i dps tanked the priest in defensive stance. disclaimer for the rogue Thrymr: he switched to his paladin on Mag, as our only paladin (Iannco) had to leave after the 3rd attempt or so.

my armory. the badge fist, hands and legs were all upgrades from that day's raiding. i previously had Akil'zon's Talonblade, s2 gloves and Midnight Legguards in those slots.

i did still manage a close 3rd on gruul (damn, a swing away from being 2nd...). with the two missing pally buffs and LotP, i figure i would have made 2nd easily even if the mage in 2nd got a boomkin in his group (he did have a shadow priest and an elemental shaman). wtb more warrior buffs!

I must say, I have no idea what you're ranting about.

Are you upset that you're #2 on the damage dealt list and somehow that indicates a class balance problem?

yes. how about reading the post?

i could have blown right past the mage and maybe gotten closer to the rogue, if we'd had two more paladins in the raid and our feral druid in the melee group.

if you're willing to settle for #2 on total damage dealt... then stop trying to dps as a fury warrior, or dpsing at all.

go for #1 or go home.

First off warriors have tons of buffs that increase our dps. Blessings salv, kings, and might; leader of the pack, mark of the wild; windfury, unleashed rage, strength of earth; ferocious inspiration or trueshot aura depending on hunter spec; and imp pally aura (forget what it's called, its the one that increased the paladin's holy dmg).

Second you goal is not to come in #1 on the dps meter. Your goal is to do as much dmg as possible with out pulling threat, period. A common result is to be #1 on the meters but that is subjective to your competition.

Classes that have a larger innate threat reduction will theoretically out dmg you by tons if both of you are able to ride the aggro threshold. Arcane mages come to mind.

I did. I found it unintelligible. I could not figure out you were trying to say, let alone how that related in anyway to the thread title you chose.

And? What does that have to do with class balance? Your complaint is not about class balance. Your complaint is that you weren't #1 across the board.

That is a silly thing to complain about, and not at all related to class balance.

Between a fury warrior and a mage, which one can stand up to a pounding longer if a mob peals off on one and hits for a crushing blow or two? I'm guessing the warrior will have more health, more armor, more dodge, more parry, and more defense than the mage. That is all part of class balance as well.

Ummm, yeah. I have no problem with someone trying to do as much damage as they can achieve without endangering the raid by pulling threat off the tank (and any dps toon who is in gear of equal level to the tank's can do that if they try). But I'd rather see someone come in under the prot warrior in total dps than have the raid wipe repeatedly.

Success in raiding is in achieving the goals of the raid, not in meaningless dps counts on an individual basis.

it goes without saying that you dps as much as you can without pulling threat. this isn't a noob rant on dpsing, this is a min/max rant that i didn't get all the buffs i could have possibly gotten, and didn't get those buffs because we didn't have good class balance across the raid.

if i had a dpser consistently come in under the tank's total damage out... he'd be out of the raid too. who are you kidding? you would really keep that dpser in the raid?

Why the hell are you complaining here? Go tell your guild to get you some more buffs; or, suck it up and deal with it. Boohoo, you weren't top DPS because you didn't have a druid. Give me a break.

Froman, from what I read you are complaining because you came 3rd in dps.
You are a warrior!
You aren't a pure dps class!
And you are complaining that you didn't out dps 2 other Pure-DPS classes.
It's one of the most stupid rants I have read.

You certainly had me fooled.

The only meter that really counts is the "Boss Dead" on schedule meter. If you think something else matters, you've missed the point of raiding.
