New to PvP (Lamellar gear)Follow

Ok, I am a level 70 prot pally just getting into PvP. I read on wowwiki that the Lamellar gear is for prot pallies, so that's what I am going after. My question is: what direction should i go for gems and enchants? All resilience/spell damage, or throw in some defense/stam?

Thanks in advance.

Don't do PvP as a prot pally. It doesn't really work out in anything except for AV where you can tank the PvE bosses. You can hold a node for a while, sure, and you will do well against anything with a fast attack speed that's stupid enough to kill themselves on you. But you shouldn't waste your honor points on Lamellar PvP gear. You should decide if you want to be a healer or retribution in PvP and start going towards that. You will have an easier time as a healer, but it can be boring to some people.

Wowwiki is wrong, Lamellar gear is not for prot paladins, it is geared towards the comedy paladin dps spec "shockadin". While it has two useful stats for a prot pally (stam and spell damage) resilience should not be considered a tanking stat.

Hmm...

Well I was never considering tanking with the Lamellar gear. My thought was that the spell damage would give me enough DPS to hold my own in BGs without having to respec every time I wanted to go into one. Not so, huh? Well that sucks as i already got the shoulders and gloves; guess I will get Ornamented for the rest then replace them...

Should've really thought about it before you made the purchase. With the exception of Alterac Valley, any tank spec is useless in PvP due to the absence of threat mechanics. About the only things you can kill are dumb rogues and fury warriors, and it takes a loooong time.

I would say go holy if you want to be effective and ret if you want to have fun. Holy is dull and incredibly useful, and ret is hilarious but ultimately you're a gimped MS warrior without all the good parts.

Well you already bought it...why not go shockadin? Shockadin's are extremely fun and while I was in a bunch of scrub healing gear and spelldamage greens with ~500 spelldamage I was putting out 2K holy shock crits in PvP with avanging wrath. Its fun if you just want to see some big numbers for a change. (almost makes me want to spec back into shockadin :(

I could do that much damage as Ret without using an 8 second cooldown spell. Normal crits would do that much, and that doesn't even include SoC or having Wrath up. Shockadins are a horrible spec to gear up for. Since healing gear already has spell damage on it, just get healing gear, this way if you want to be useful in a raid or a party, you don't have to change gear at all.

I'm decked out in complete lamellar gear (was a shockadin) and have respec'd to prot. Any ideas on how I can get proper gear without jeopardizing the group in heroic instances? Or should I treat this like I'm a brand new lvl 70 tank, and get to 490 defense rating first?

Resilience can be used towards your def cap bro. There is a conversion rate actually to it but im not too sure what it is. I do know with some def enchants and maybe trinkets you would be uncrittable with pvp gear.

You can get uncrittable with Resilience, that's how many Druids do it, but that doesn't mean that PvP gear = tanking gear. Anyone who tanks in PvP gear is, to be frank, retarded. If that's all you got, just heal some dungeons (or DPS, whichever was your primary spec) and get some gear that way, then respec and finish out your gear.
