Let me save everyone the trouble of flaming you and just suggest that you read the various stickies at the top of the forum and then see if your question is answered. If it's not, hopefully you'll get a few idea and can reformulate your question so that we can better help

im not asking for everyone to tell me how to play the game i just looking for popular opinion because this is a good representation of the WOW community. i figured that if i could find out what the people of this forum think so it can help me as to what spec i should continue or start on.

and please don't think I'm sounding rude, but the three guides will give you pretty much the pro's and con's of each spec.

troll speaks the truth (ironic, huh? jk). There's a good idea of what to expect in Jack's sticky, and I can tell you that many of us helped out and put input into that sticky, so what is in there is already a good representation of this forum community.

I don't really know why I said that though, it didn't seem to do much good the first time, so your answer is: Holy is most popular, a good Prot can usually find a home, better luck rerolling than going Ret. Short hand, that's it.

Nice to see that the Anti-Ret sentiment is alive and well, however inaccurate.... Ret is probably the most popular spec in the game right now for levelling a paladin, and there are quite a few Rets at 70 that seem to like it quite well...

If the OP is saying that he NEVER wants to respec, that is just silly, because it is not at all expensive or inconvenient to respec. HOWEVER; ya, if he TRULY NEVER wants to respec, then he probably should go holy or prot depending on which he prefers and what is needed most on his server. A 25-man raid only needs 1 Ret Pally, so it IS harder to find a home.

Maulgak meant at 70 Holy is the most popular spec. He doesn't contest ret's viability as a leveling spec and he is not anti-ret in any way that I've seen him. However, at 70, most rets who want to raid or want to do PvP will spec as Holy because

1) More guilds will accept a Holy Paladin over a Ret for raiding.
2) In arenas, unless you are already having very good gear, Holy is much better than Ret.

The Paladin FAQ 2.0, the Holy Paladin Guide, Retribution Guide, and Paladin Tank Guide ARE what the people of this forum think. For general purpose questions, newbs are better off looking at that consensus than starting a "what do you think?" thread, where you risk getting really stupid off-the-wall responses that can only mislead you.

the whole re-spec thing is just that i dont want to waste my gold because i made a bad decision 30 levels ago.

and if anyone cares, i went holy.

You're a Paladin, get used to respeccing.

Truer words were never spoken. Only ever trying out one spec on your pally is like eating only vanilla ice cream for the rest of your life. Give choccy and strawberry a go too!

you'd be a lot better asking a half dozen dps's on your server and asking the whether they spend more time lf tank or lf healer.... or lf dps, but i doubt that'll bethey're answer. that'll tell you what your server is lacking... i'd bet it'll be tanks. on my server at least there's usually no lack of healers but nearly no tanks. as holy and ret i can spend an hour lfg. as prot i usually have a group in 10 mins or so. needless to say since i learned to tank i go prot most of the weekend for herois and kara and go ret during the week for dailies and the 25mans we've been doing on wed's. makes life sooo much smoother. my other pally is always holy.... topping damage meters is nice when you can find a tank, but its easier to live with 3rd place as tank and have a guaranteed group anytime you want.

Thank you for backing me up before I could get back on, hehe :)

Exactly right. The OP did specifically state
Quote:
do the best end-game
and so my response was tailored accordingly. Leveling is a completely different story, particularly because you can fill any role as any spec pretty much from Deadmines to Sunken Temple, maybe a little further (depending on gear/skill). When it comes to end-game though, and you NEED to be a certain spec for a certain task, Ret although viable is still the least commonly sought for spec of Paladin: sad, but fact.

Oh, and the respeccing thing: I agree. Truer words never spoken ;)
