Ice Lance - 300+dmg
Ice Lance Crit- 700+dmg

*Now lets not forget frost talents*
Shatter - +50% chance to crit a frozen target
Ice Shards- +100%bonus to frost critical damage
On a frozen Target
Ice Lance- 1000+
Ice Lance Crit - 2000+

In the end, its easy for a character to take 4k damage burst from a frost mage if they time there frostbolt, WE's Nova and an icelance properly.

No Hacks involved, just players knowing there class.

Higher, actually.

If you use a 40/0/21 spec, you can get a 5K Frostbolt if trinketed/arcane powered up, and follow that up with an ice lance that can hit for 2K.

GG.

For the math sensitive,

Ice Lance base is (161+187)/2=174

Assume 500 +spell damage (easy for a level 70)

Ice Lance gets 14.29% of spell damage per WoWWiki, or an additional 71 in this example.

I'm assuming an Arcane/Frost spec, with Ice Shards and Spell Power, for 225% bonus damage on crits.

I am not including any other damage modifier, but assume that things such as Mind Mastery are already included.

Base damage 171 + spell damage 74 = 245

245 * 2.25 crit bonus damage = 551

551 * 1.3 Arcane Power = 716

716 * 3 on a frozen target = 2150.

This all with gear from a modestly geared 70 mage, and only includes Ice Lance damage. Add in a Frostbolt and you get another 3016 damage, in 2.5 seconds, for 2067 DPS. (all numbers rounded)

Just have to add for your math that you did decent post nothing wrong there, but still you are being carefull with the gear. Where did this happen? World pvp, BG's, arena? Cos 500 spell dmg is quite low for mages in 70's. I'd say more or less 1000 before you add trinket etc. Anyway I switched to fire soon after I hit 70 and still with quite bad gear I had lovely combos with fb & il around 3k + 2k.

edit- I checked from screenie I took before respec and I had 642 frost dmg that time. So easily over 2k lance.

With my new 40/0/11 build I have got 5k frostbolt crits and getting up to about 2.5k ice lance crits while the target is frozen. It really depends on your build, obviously a well built frost mage will get higher crits than deep fire, but even then I have seen ice lance crits pushing 2k.

So I would say very much possible :)

I'm nothing fancy - I've got just over 500 Damage and 17% Crit - My IL hits for 16 to 1700. This isn't considering my 2 trinkets (Both of which are average at best) which add about 100 Damage.

So I'd say 100% chance better than 1500, Sometimes 1600, once in a while 1700

With all these numbers, dont forget about resilence.
your ice lance vs 400resil and no resil is going to be quite different.

Ice lance is one of those very nice spells to see if the enemy has lots of +resilience or not. Just hit em with it once and you know if you want to stay and nuke or run, quickly.

Is there a reason Allakhazam doesn't list Ice Lance on it's Spell List for Mages? It's on Wowhead and Thottbot but not Allakhazam. Also, the Spell levels differ between the three sites. I'm levelling a Frostie (at 50 so far) and I'm just wondering...

you get its one and only rank at level 66.

Allakhazam never really updated all of the spells very well for BC.

For my math I was assuming very low gear levels, as in just hit 70, then bought the Evoker PVP gear to update any old greens (~10G a piece, honored rep rewards, very reasonable to have as soon as you ding 70 IMO)

For a comparison, my mage has ~600 damage in PVP gear (I know it's not very good), so in my case, with my spec, I average about 1764 with trinkets, or 1560 without, and I'm not specc'd for max damage.

PS That calculation is based on no resistance, and PVE - no resilience. I also chose a really easy gear level to get, to show that it's really about the spec, not the gear.
