Here's an interesting find I came across while I was looking for an easy way to compare gear sets (mainly the effect gems have on AP/crit).

Link.

On there you'll be able to see the difference between two gear sets, the set with RED and the set with SSD.

What you'll see is that RED gives 3% crit damage and 0.17% crit versus the SSD's 41 AP.

In the end, I think RED is better. It costs a lot more, but I think it'll be worth it.

Link not very useful in my eyes, cause the compare feature is only available to registered members. You might want to post a screenie instead.

Don't need to compare, just switch between the different set of gear to see the difference in stats.

What I find interesting is that, while there are a fair number of sites that allow from simple Armory Interrogation (armorylite.com) to Gear Manipulation (Warcrafter.net), to gear comparison (Allakhazam, wowdb) all the way to Character comparison (wowdigger) ... they all seem to be spurring each other on in terms of what they provide.

I discovered Wowdigger a while back when CTProfiles fell through a hole in the floor - back then, all they allowed was the ability to import a character profile from the armory, changing gear on the character was in beta at the time, and didn't work too well.

It's awesome to have things like this around, especially if a third of your playing experience actually happens outside the game ( ;-> )

to add to the list of sites that robert mentions:

I stumbled upon this site :
http://be.imba.hu

My report :
http://be.imba.hu/?zone=EU&realm=Emeriss&character=Samperor

What i like about this is :
Short advice : in my case it says i'm lacking a lot of hit, which is logical cus im in PVP gear + PVP spec.
The short advise the site gives about the gear and what it's best suited for.
I also like the graphical presentation of where i got the gear and how far it should/could carry me.

My guild is using the PVE gear score as a deciding factor on wether or not people are accepted into the guild. I think it's a very nice concept. Add this to any of the sites that robert mentioned and you have almost all of the information you need at one site (except for quest+ item details then).

I'd just like to point out that Theo has ripped into this site in the past as an accurate measure of anything. That being said, I use it just because I like to see the bars move steadily up.

Yeah, that site is complete ******* garbage.

If your guild is using the scores there to base their gear levels for accepting people, I'd leave that guild in a heartbeat; there's no way you'll get into T6 content.

well, as a manager i like this with graphs, progression lines and clear data representation. I liked the lines a lot. The guild is run by my cousin and he got that site from somewhere. We still manually check the gear on armory and that site to see if they are in Kara++ ZA/Maggy/Gruul+ gear.

Like i said in the previous post, if the site's that robert mentions combine some sort of short report thing with a nice progression bar that would be a nice merge.

As for not getting into T6 content, i guess i never will :S:S Stupid stuff with guilds keeps happening and i can't commit to 3 days a week raiding schedule :(

For PvE, this has been known for a long, long time, at least since the Gear Spreadsheet came out.

You could make a bar graph showing how many factions they had at Exalted too - it still wouldn't be a good measure of someone's gear any more than adding up the item levels seems to be for that site. I don't know if it still does it, but I remember it downgrading me for using a Shard of Contempt... which is the second best Warrior trinket in the game. iLVL generally increases as item quality does, but you'd be just as well off measuring a Rogue's gear level by their armor total (which is based off iLVL except on pieces with bouns armor) and getting results that are just as meaningless.

A bar graph would be a pretty neat way of viewing that data, though.

Using be.imba.hu to measure potential guild members would be interesting... in so much that I'd make it a point to app to your guild as a rogue in full spellstrike and primal mooncloth gear with S4 healing gloves, slikk's cloak and maybe Anveena's Touch just to push my iLevel total into the T5/T6 level.

That site is completely useless for judging how well a person is geared or whether they're ready for specific content.

Obviously it can be mildly helpful if the person in question is known to have any idea how to gear up their class, but the scores should in no way be thought to reflect how well the player would be able to perform in a raid.

Still awful. Goes by item level.

It's better than be.imba though. They actually rate enchants based on PvE stats for a class, though it's still amateurish compared to a spreadsheet that can take into account hit caps, etc.

That's great, I love websites that allow for this kind of pre-planning of gear. I actually find pre-planning just as much fun as playing the game, must be an OCD quirk or something.

But I like Sandbox (the build your toon link in my sig), a little better because you can set your spec and add common raiding buffs that you will be receiving to have a more accurate view of your damage numbers.

Yeah, I was just looking at be.imba.hu and it said that my S3 helm accounted for twice the gear points as my warglaive. Lawl.

And all rogues are below the hit cap, so they're all going to say that they need improvement. Getting the hit cap is usually a bad idea, whereas it's important for hunters, casters, etc.
