Replacing Spellfire/SpellstrikeFollow

I'm sure this is a challenge for most mages out there and not just me. So much choice, Badge gear, T5 raid loot etc. some of the T5 gear is considered an upgrade for mages with the spellfire/strike sets however sometimes this is only realised by Arcane mages and not necessarily the Fire/Frosties. Also, some of it doesnt have any gem sockets so should it be considered a sidegrade? hmmm.

I wanted to collect your views on what is considered a great or classic gear item to replace each of the Spellfire/strike items, considering many of us are worried about losing the set bonuses.

Well I'll start us off as a Fire Mage raiding T5/T6 content (no T6 here as clearly that would be a no brainer):

Spellfire Robe > Vestments of the Sea-Witch
Spellfire Gloves > Soul-Eater's Handwraps
Spellfire Belt > Belt of Blasting

Spellstrike Hood > Cowl of the Grand Engineer
Spellstrike Pants > Pantaloons of Arcane Annihilation

So, Good? Bad? Ugly?

post your own recommendations here...

If you are an arcan-mage then go for the 2 piece T5. It's just an awesome damage-upgrade.
If you are fire, your suggestions aren't bad.

overall, good choices. it's more or less what i did.

some alternatives
robe: you could try the one from hydross or mag heroic until you get sea-witch. that will last you until t6.
gloves: [wowitem=33586]these[/wowitem]
belt: blasting will last you until anetheron's noose or even longer if you still need the +hit.
hood: [wowitem=33453]hood of hexing[/wowitem]

The badge robes are also excellent with all the spelldmg and crit (or hit if you need it).

I would get the new badge pants Corrupted Soulcloth Pantaloons.

My current setup is
Spellfire gloves for T5 gloves
Spellfire belt for Cord of Screaming Terrors
Spellstrike pants with T5 pants

I did drop in overall +dmg but im still over 1k and i gained about 5% crit so... it works for me. + my stats shot up as well. like 1k hp and about 800 mana at least

Spellfire Robes -> Heroic MrT, or Badges; Vestments are pretty rare, especially with so few people killing Vashj regularly. Sunfire if you've got 20000 gold laying around
Spellfire Gloves -> Badges, with Soul-Eaters only being used as a small gap. Again, Sunfire if you've got 20k gold laying around.
Spellfire Belt -> Blasting, and if you desperately need the health just gem with with twin +15 stams and you've got better than Screaming Terriors :p

Spellstrike Hood -> Hood of Hexing, Reaver's Helm, or the Sunwell Engineering helm (probably cost ~5-10k)
Spellstrike Pants -> Any of the three badges pants, T5 (along with shoulders) if you're going for 2-piece

So I see a lot of people recomend Studious Wraps, but wouldn't Enslaved Doomguard Soulgrips be better? Only 15 more badges, but is my math wrong on that extra slot? Currently been getting gear mainly to boost my terribly low stam, and I only need one gem with any +hit on it in gloves to remain hit capped. Thoughts?

Assuming you went for the gem slot bonus on the two gloves you will get more damage out of the studious than the doomguard ones, that is probably why. (ignoring epic gems) +9 + 4stam/5spelldmg + 53 + 4 bonus = 57

doomguard: veiled noble topaz 4hit/5dmg = 52dmg. But as you said, if you are low on stam/int it isn't too bad of an investment, but if you have the option to get T5/T6 it may be better with those.
