hey guys,

my shammy atm is lvl67(ele) and my mate has a lvl70(enh) with with some T4 and kara epixx

we dont ring of blood a few times with some guildies the ther day and he was pissed that i was always doing 150-200 dps more than him.

Is this always gonna be the way?, will enh ever do more dmg than ele again?, as even 3 levels lower im smashing it.

Sorry, but I seriously doubt your pushing 800 DPS at that level, even with that rather good gear. I have never done the Ring of Blood quest(line?) but maybe the mobs are vulnerable to spelldamage?

I leveled my shammy 1-70 as elemental. I had about 525+damage at level 70 with full raiding ele spec. I was wearing about half epics/half blues. I used my cooldowns and my spell rotation to full advantage. In a heroic run I was between 550-600dps on average, depending on a string of crits of course. At level 67 you are not doing 800dps on a regular basis.

What do you do on a normal run with regular mobs in an instance or farming run?.

Two possiblities to the 800dps

1. You're lying
2. They are SUPER susceptible to spell damage

I now respec'd my shammy to Enh because I got tired of Lightning bolt spamming. He's in a mix of greens and blues and with my totems down in a regular instance I am pushing 450-550dps. I know my weapons suck, I'm working on picking up the pvp fist weapons. I just respec'd last week, jeez gimme a minute :-)

In T4 and kara gear an enh shammy should be in the 600-800dps range so he was right on target.

il do it again tomorrow and post up recount data to show the dps i was doing.

while doing it i had about 700 spell dmg with buffs and, his SS boosting my Nat' dmg also.

i wasnt at 800 dps at al times, that would jsut be insane. I reached 800 dps on occasions when i would get crit streaks but wasnt far under that at normal pace.

my spell rotation is LB, LB, LB, CL(popping trinkets on every CD)

well in that case you weren't doing 800 dps, if you put up a recount or other damage meter of it, it will most likely show you in the 500 dps range.

Spikes of uber dps are common on critting specs that focus alot on that area.

Ele shammies should be pushing 35% crit with talents for their lightning bolt spells.

Sometimes I was doing 1100-1300dps in short bursts, but my overall dps was in that 550-600 dps range because you aren't always critting and you'll get a string of LB's that don't.

I'm sure he was getting some Uber numbers on his windfury crits, but when you look at overall dps, he should be trumping you by a pretty good chunk.

Windfury DPS is very similar to Ele shammy spamming LB.

Sometimes you get the procs on Windfury/Lightning Overload, Sometimes you don't
Sometimes they crit, sometimes they don't.

If you're having a good streak and he's having a bad one, It is possible you could outdps him on spikes.

Either way I don't know if I miss read your post initially but it looks semi-misleading with how you stated your uberness in regards to beating his dps.

Edit: By the way, I love your sig.

Edit2: Damn me for rereading your last post, You getting his SS bonus is gonna make u look uber too, just another reason Shamans are great utility in raids.

if your out dpsing your boy that means he is either bad, or you get really lucky.

I will say this though around 70 with 25% crit and 500 spell damage you could compete with some kara epic players in dps even just hitting 70, you will see a decline in dps as the players around you progress more, we just start off strong and don't scale like some of the other classes in game.

by the way when you are playing with your enhancement friend if he is using storm strike and letting you have all the charges you are seeing an increase of 20% every 10 seconds for 2 attacks or about 2/5 of your attacks which is major, but any good enhancement shaman will let an elemental shaman have these charges since we gain a better benefit from it then he ever will with lightning bolts and higher spell damage.

Exactly.

DPS meters that don't average your DPS out over the entire fight (or multiple fights) are not useful at all. Nobody really cares if you get a 5-second burst of 6000 DPS if your overall DPS is a lousy 400.

Oh, one last thing that I forgot to ask you.

You said you were close to 700 spell damage fully buffed when doing this ring of blood.
From your Armory link you have 440 spell damage normally unbuffed, that's a difference of 260 spell damage.

So I thought about it a little and this is what I came up with.

Wrath of Air Totem = 101 Spell Damage
Flask of Blinding Light = 80 Spell Damage
Crunchy Serpent, Poached Bluefish, or Blackened Basilisk = 23 Spell Damage
Superior Wizard Oil = 42 spell damage and healing.

Ok so that equals up to 246 spell damage

440+246 = 686 spell damage

Ok so you spent a chunk of change buying buff flasks, food, oil and got that wrath totem down.(What I have listed is the best you can get that I know of)

Was your buddy buffing his dps at all?

Getting insane DPS on short fight when you get a few lucky crit in a row is not uncommon.

Ring of blood is what? 5 fights? If you string a few crit and your lighting overload procs a few times you might get crazy number but on average over a full instance run you will see that your DPS will be way lower than what you can do on 2-3 pulls with some luck.
