I also wanted to ask about talents. My talent build is one I have pulled from WoW armoury from a very very well geared pre BC player who is well known on our realm,(was I should say), and everybody wanted him in their raids\guilds\parties. He recently however left the game which was a great loss and we even had a final march to his resting place at IF into the kings hall for him, all stood in a row either side with our guns\bows\axes\swords drawn, quiet moving really and an indication of the love in the game, especially for the odd hunter!!!

I digress though and wanted to ask if people feel my talent build is good or not? opinions would be appreciated. What do you think is the best, and what is the most successful build for raiding.

Like Sweathog said, there are stickes in the forum.
It seemed like you want to mainly raid. Looking at your spec, here are the changes I personally would make:

In Beast Mastery:
-Take out 4 points from Endurance Training
-Pump 2 into Imp Rev Pet
-Take out 2 points form Spirit Bond
-Take 1 out of Frenzy
-Put 2 into Animal Handler
-Put 3 into Ferocious Inspiration

In Marksmanship:
-I have 5/5 in Efficiency instead of Imp HM, but I guess Imp HM can work if you said you never get low on mana
-Put 2 into Rapid Killing
-Take out 5 form Imp Arcane Shot
-Put 2 into GFTT
-Take 2 out of Imp Stings
-Max out Mortal Shots

Again this is my personal build for raiding, if you want to PvP as BM or MM it'd be really different.

I think it must be your server, because my guild loves hunters if they are spec'ed right. MM = suxors in raids. BM or SV for dmg. They even compliment one another if in same group. I have to admit a good geared Mage is insane dmg, but a good geared hunter if they know what they are doing with shot rotations, etc... can do insane dmg as well

Funny. On my 1st main, hunter, I never really had problems getting into groups or invited to raid with my (far more advanced then me) guild. It obviously helped that I took a three month break at lvl 61 though. How? Easy, I'm a nice guy, at least in game I seem to be one, and while leveling made some friends who were lower lvl than me and whom I would help nearly anytime they asked. So when I got back into the game all my friends were both 70 and raiding. And they still remembered the hunter who helped them en route to 70.

Hunters are easy to play if you are vocal in 5mans about your trap CD and if you pay good attention to what your pet is doing and where the hell the tank is. If the tank moves forward into the instance for whatever reason, it's time to call Fido back, lose a little DPS but rid yourself of the possibility of aggroing another group of mobs.

In raids it's even easier (at least is was for me). CC on your part is not needed (I still made a point of laying a trap in front of my healers whenever CD was up), so you can concentrate on topping DPS charts and not pulling aggro. See that running mob? MD is your friend. I Macro'd MD with a little message "XXXXXX reminds mob where the tank is" so that everyone knew what was going on. A little recognition's never bad ...

As for enchants, there's an awesome stickie, so use that, it's what I did and really ... it's just there!!! Happy hunting.

Perhaps I can help you with where the orginal stigma comes from... from a tanks perspective!

The problem lies in the fact that the hunter class is one of the easiest classes to solo! I know I have a hunter. I luv him! lol

Most players dont group much as a hunter until 70 or very rarely as its more efficient to simply solo then get stuck with a group that may be struggling. This is intially where the hunter "hate" comes from, a lot of hunters dont know how to play their class in a group setting and its fustrating trying to teach a hunter to trap at 70 and to get a hunter to control their pet etc. Just a lot of bad experiences! I admit Ive grouped a few times and completely wiped my group from not knowing what my role is in a PVE situation. I can Tank the hell out of anything, but run my hunter in an instance, im back to lvl 1. Also, from a tanks perspective, the hunter trap is one of hte worst cc's. It often behind the tank and when the trap breaks the mob usually goes after the hunter, the hunter FD adn then goes after the healers, wiping the raid, if the tank doesnt realize it with the 50 million otherthings he/she is worrying about. It happens in my guild and raid after raid...lol

However, with that said, I would admitt there are raids adn instances and dread going into without a HUNTER. I like running Kara with a Hunter, MGT and especially ZA!! Miss direct for Nightbane and Gruuls makes my life soooo MUCH easier as a TANK. There have been hunter our guild has dropped because they didnt know how to MD and there are hunters I look for to run with. Hunters make some of the Best RAID Leaders as you can send you pet on a mob boss move to survive, while relaying info on vent or typing, all the while still doing DPS.

Hang in there and you will Earn your due... I bow down before the knowledgable and wise hunter, but will boot the untrained hunter faster than you can say "Apple sauce"

Cheers!

This is no different from any other class, but Hunters are the whipping boys for wipes. The saying "If the Raid wipes, blame the Hunter." is less true than it is habit. If nobody comes forward and admits it (this is a running joke in my guild) they blame the Hunter, even if it isn't their fault. Some do this jokingly, others actually believe it and it ends up being bad for the Hunter rep.

We blame the gnomes. If you're Alliance, you should try it some time.

maybe I'm misunderstanding you, but for kara and the little time I've spent in ZA, we use hunters for CC quite a bit. That, and pulling a mob offa healer often gives the tank more time to get to it, or, if you die before that, it gives the healer more time to heal themselves/drop aggro.

Call me cynical, but I don't think of 10-mans as "raids" -- there are things you are able to do in them that you can't do in the 25-man instances...like crowd control and not get one-shot by targets. Hunters do have usefulness in a group or a 10-man, but in full raids they are there for DPS and DPS alone...and sometimes Misdirection. (This is coming from someone who is highly specced for utility and takes every excuse to use it.)

You also don't know how this mechanic works, though. Glass houses, stones?

The social aggro range is much, much shorter than the proximity aggro range. To get social aggro a mob must usually be within 5-10 yards of another mob; in order to get proximity aggro, the range is usually more like 20-25 in 5-mans. If the pet follows a mob they will pull considerably quicker than they would if the pet was recalled, and you should be able to use the extra ~10 yards minimum leeway you have to finish off the mob more effectively than you would had it been you and the pet without the bonus distance.

The range of pet aggro compared to players is also much shorter. I'd call it at least a wash, as since they've made that change, I don't think I've ever seen a pet pull a runner -- it was already coming anyway. You might want to be careful before you start making accusations, Mr. Glasstone.

Using default keybindings is probably a big reason why you'd have any trouble doing this in the first place, though. Seriously, CTRL-F2? And you didn't change it?

I use default key bindings except for pet attack set to tilde, and I have NFC what ctl-F2 does. I mouse-click the other options on the pet bar...and no, I'm not a keyboard turner.

Im on ghostlands server. I know what you mean people expect me to cc like a mage all the time and never heal my pet.
Im so tired of people treating me like garbage cause i rolled i hunter , im always at the top 3 or 4 of any raids or instances in dps im speced as a dps bm hunter not a cc person.
Im so fed up with the pimpily faced know it alls and ego maniacs out there that I feel like just quiting wow all togeather. Its a good game but im not into online abuse all the time.
