antyhing is possible. if you pick up mining...you will then mine nodes, smelt ore and level your mining skill.
as you mine, you will gather materials to use to then level your jewelcrafting. they complenent each otehr and you will make it to the skill cap on both.

are you asking is it good for your toon...i cant say.

is your real question, are they good for a druid, again, its up to you.
First, most pre 300 level items are ok at best, and most all of them are BoE, and can be bought from another JC'r
cut gems will not help you until outlands gear, and even then, most all gems are BoE.

you might be bettered servered to go LW/skin, but thats me, and my feral druids choice, to each his own.

I agree with yoshimygodthatsthelongestallakhazamusernameever. Feasible needs to be in context of a goal. What are you looking to get out of your professions? Gold? Gear? Girls? (jewelcrafting FTW, lol)

Like yosh I'm LW/Skin too, because I liked wearing my own gear on the way up and I'm not a hardcore raider or PvPer so I knew I'd benefit from the Primalstrike set (375 BoP) for a good long time, and now drums are a sweet deal since they made 'em cheap to make and usable in forms. But there's solid arguments for other choices/combinations depending on what you're looking for. If it wasn't so expensive to level a prof, I'd drop skinning for enchanting since I don't make much anymore. (primalstrike set and drums both require you to be a high-level leatherworker to equip them so I'm keeping that)

The Mining is good for gold and Jewelcrafting if you see what is being sold and only make a few of each item each time can be profitable , but beware of flooding the market as i see many do ( to those that want to give people like me decent profits please keep flooding the markets) and the bonus stats you can get are very useful .

Most trades are good though , easiest for gold is just take any gathering professions , but you can only track one type at a time.

Herbs are good , making pots to sell can be very profitable once you get high enough , most high levels will be buying them for raids and instances .

Leatherworking can be very useful as if like on my server leather and then Mail armour has some very high prices , it usually sells fast as well , again that depends on if someone has flooded the market , i find it gives me much more choice in what i can wear for stats.

Engineering can be great fun and not that much of a money-pit if care is taken and with robot helpers and other tricks can get you out of trouble at times , not exactly that profitable though but guns and related items can sell well .

It all depends on what you want at end game as all Trades have advantages.

To JeeBar.

Enchanting does not have to be expensive to level , it helps if you are a tailor though , but at 70 it more time than gold to level Enchanting .

Run through all the low level instances , disenchant everything you get , enchant lower level gear for guild members or just any low level gear over and over until you get high enough , example is my Mage at 26 could disenchant stuff twice her level at level 36 with 235 enchanting she can disenchant up to around level 65 i think it is , total cost was mostly training and buy a few bits needed like rods and so far about 50g spent , but i do make a lot of gold selling the lower level dusts and stuff .

There is a very good guide for disenchanting that i have seen on this site but not sure of the link to it.

Would alchemy or engineering be better if I wanted to protect myself during battle, seeing as how they make potions or items?

Engineering also gets you the ability to turn things into chickens... I would love to turn things into chickens. Not to mention you get to MAKE your own flying machine.

Anywho, I went LW/Skin on my druid because it seemed more advantageous to myself to use that. Plus armor kits of the varied sorts are almost always in demand so it's an ok way to earn some money.
