Agility or Attack PowerFollow

#1 Jun 30 2008 at 7:11 AM Rating: Decent
Ok iv been looking at various hunter who I play with and also have been raiding and be doing PvP with. I noticed that gems and various enchants are different on many whether they in raid or PvP.

But what is actually best for a hunter taking the agility over attack power or other way round. For example

Wrist enchant gives +15 Agility however also gives +26 Attack Power.

I know stats wise agility adds to Crit and to armour while Attack power adds to DPS but which is Best.

By the way money is no object before people start mentioning getting what u can afford before upgrading im sorry but its the best enchant / gems or pointless getting.

Im not sure about PvP but for Raiding dont ever gem for AP, Agi is the way to go with a little bit of Hit in there.

In general, you can never go wrong with going for agility. But what's best depends a little on your gear level. If your just starting kara then AP will probably give you a little better dps. The main reason you go with agility is not only does it add ap (1 agil=1 ap for hunters) and crit (40agil=1%crit), but it also scales with Blessing of Kings, while attack power does not. If your at 500agil, then kings is going to give you an extra 50agil, which is 50 more attack power and about 1.25% crit, on top of extra armor and dodge (which doesnt matter for us in general).

Early on blessing of might will boost your dps more, but as your gear gets better, blessing of kings becomes preferred. Same with enchants.

The enchant your thinking about is the glove enchant. Superior Agility is much better than assualt. Not only do you get AP from the agility but you also get crit which is very important to a hunter. Assault is just a crappy enchant people get because it isn't exspensive. Same for your weapon enchant. 35 agi is much better than savagery and again savagery is another enchant that is pretty useless when compared to others out there.

For PvE gemming, +10agi gem is the best gem for you if you are hit capped. If you are not hit capped, get a few hit/agi gems in there. Never go for AP, like previous posters have stated, agi scales with BoK. Also in almost any 25 man raid there will be 2 pallies who can supply you with BoK and BoM.

For PvP gemming, it's a little scattered. You wanna try to get decent crit so throw in a few agi gems for that. Once you hit a good amount of crit (id say like 25-30%) stack some resil and AP gems.

Regardless of spec, once you start raiding consistently and have a good set of gear gem and enchant for agility. You get armor, crit, and AP from it which means greater survivability (as minimal as it might be) more crits and a DPS boost, but all that gets increased by 10% with Blessing of Kings. BoKings should always be up in raids, as every raid SHOULD have a holy/ prot paladin as a healer/ buffer because they are the best single target healers in the game, and give the best buff besides Mark of the Wild.

AP is nice in leveling or even for Heroics but raids is Agility all the way.

PvP will be dependant on how often you do it, if you do Arena more than raid, choose your gems and enchants based on your team make-up, but a healthy combo of AP and Agility should make sure you're viable without the buffs but still gives you a good DPS increase when you get the buffs.

My general rule of thumb is: Through Kara gem for AP. After Kara re-gem for AGI.

Buffs in 10 person content are typically not consistent enough to make stacking AGI worthwhile. One run you'll get MotW, the next Kings, etc. The benefits of AGI come with 25 person raid groups, adding to decent gear. So once you've got a decent gear set and are ready for 25 person raids the full spectrum of buffs you get in a 25 person raid will push your DPS past that which the AP would give you.

If you can count on having Blessing of Kings, I would definately start gemming agi in any new gear you get :)

Agi, agi, agi. Just flat out agi, ask any well educated high end raider.

Kings is of course one reason we stack agi. The other reason is hunter's mark. Essentially you actually have 440 more AP then you think you do, which means that you're above the AP/crit line in the AP direction, especially with other raid buffs. AP and Crit are complementary stats, so getting lots of one makes the other one better. Don't go gemming crit though. That's stupid.

Themag,

Agility vs AP is an often talked about topic.

1 Agility = 1 RAP, .552 Crit Rating, 2 armor, and tiny tiny dodge.

Generally 1 Agi ~ 2 RAP
This can be seen in gemming, it offers you 8 Agi or 16 AP, 10 Agi or 20 AP.

So if we take these as our basis, for your gloves, there is Assult (26 AP) and Superior Agility (15 Agi), if we look at it
with 1 Agi ~ 2 RAP, the Superior Agility wins.

For raiding, if you're just going into Kara and doesn't have much Agility, AP would be better, and BoM would be better then BoK.
Most of the time people compare stuff when it's under the circumstances of having the best available gear/gems, in which case BoM and Agi would be better since they scale.

Good luck hunting,

-Og

No, of the bandit is the way to go while leveling.

AGI VS AP really only comes into play when you're raiding. Until then AP is king easily.

I'm trying to gear my Hunter up to 'non sucking badly' status.

I'm getting better in game, I've certainly learned a lot in regard to pvp, and working my character more effectively...

I've been going into the BGs more often and I thought that AP was the way to go when you're pvp'ing.

Though I can certainly see where high agility would be of an advantage -- especially with dealing with those wily rogues.

am I going to have to have two suits of armor? one for Leveling / every day instances, questing, etc -- and one for PVP?

I wouldn't bother with two sets pre 70. Wouldn't even buy any pvp gear personally. Just do some BGs, or even just the daily every day on your way to 70 and pick up some free pretty decent starter epics. :)
