Resto arena adviceFollow

Just specced resto this week to try and get my arena teams to high ratings, and I was getting frustrated with feral pvp.

I have over 10k hp, 9k mana, 395 resil, and 1666 healing so I'm pretty well geared. I'll have enough arena points to get the S3 helm on Tuesday and I should have enough honor to get the Guardian's neck tomorrow. After that I plan on getting the 40k honor pvp trinket for more resil (I have the blue one) and then who knows, maybe start getting feral pvp gear again but that's neither here nor there.

I realize that my biggest issue at the moment is a lack of experience. Only time can fix that.

Last night I tried 3s for the first time with an enhancement shammy friend of mine. Couldn't find a warrior at first so I listened to my guildies and tried a rogue and we got spanked by every team. They'd focus the shammy, he'd die, then it'd be 2 on 3. Nothing we could do about that. I tried to tell them that it was a terrible comp, but they wouldn't listen. After a 0 - 7 record, I disbanded the team and joined a warrior friend of mine who logged on, with the enhancement shaman.

We proceeded to spank every team, except one. One that we faced 4 times in a row, even though I kept staggering the queue times. We are gonna try to raise the rating tonight so here's where I need advice. That team was RMP (rogue mage priest). I don't see how to beat them. In case you forget, I was rolling with warrior, enhance shaman, resto druid. We should have a lot of melee gib potential, but if you think this comp is pretty terrible let me know and I'll convince the shammy to just sit out 3s and I might do 5s with him for points, maybe get a warlock.

Is our comp just doomed to fail to a RMP team? Here's what would happen: they would focus the shammy. I would try to pop out and heal him. If I tried to CC anyone, they would CS me / kick me / whatever and I'd be screwed for a time. So I would just sit out and hot him up. He would still die. NS -> HT. Rejuv -> Swiftmend. LBx3. Didn't matter. He'd live for a time, then the CC pressure on me would create a gap and he'd die. Then they would kill me, then the warrior. What could we possibly do against that combo? Stand in the middle and spam /dance?

its not doomed against RMP, its just a tough uphill battle. the best thing to do is focus the priest first. get the war on the priest while your shammy purges the priest of all his buffs and goes defensive (that means shield vs the rogue and LoSing the mage). have him make a focus earth shock macro so he can interrupt the mage while he 1h+shield dps's the rogue. meanwhile, youre playing control on the mage to prevent the warrior from getting CC'ed too much while also keeping the shammy up. if the shammy is LoSing properly (not necessarily easy to do, but it gets easier with practice) he should be able to force the rogue to blow a few cooldowns.

with a shield on and a full stack of lifebloom + rejuv, the shammy should be able to just utilize lightning shield and flame shock with his 1h+shield to wear the rogue down. just keep WF totem down for the warrior and alternate it with grounding to keep the mage off balance. when the warrior gets a 5 stack of sunder on the priest, top the shammy off as best you can then begin to control the mage while the shammy pops bloodlust. keep the mage under the effects of cyclone, alternate your feral charge with the warriors pummel, and save your bash for an extra stun on the priest. with bloodlust, a full five sunders, and windfury, the warrior should be able to tear the priest down before the mage is able to do anything. at the very least, youll force the rogue off of your shammy for a moment to come help the priest.

its quite reliant on your shammy being a purge-spamming ******* however. you need to strip the priest of all his buffs asap so the warrior has less crap to cut thru (especially inner fire and PWS). that can be hard to do while worrying about tanking a rogue and balancing LoS with a nuking mage.

alternatively, if youre feeling confident, you can try to take out the mage first. the shammy may need to go 1h+shield for this if the rogue is on him, but the advantage of this move is youre keeping the mages damage down by forcing him to stay mobile. you also nerf the rogues ability to DPS a little by forcing him to shiv crip onto both targets. this leaves the priest open to mana burn, which then becomes your key priority to stop. control the priest to keep him from burning you or the shammy too much while your shammy just purges the mage naked. with no frost armor or frost barrier, your warrior will have a much easier time of staying on the mage, and the extra interrupt and damaging power of ES makes the shammy a strong DPSer despite using 1h+shield. if luck goes your way and you put out enough damage on the mage, chances are you can force the priest into a healing role, leaving you free to control and heal as necessary.

personally, im more fond of taking the mage out first. the rogue can largely be ignored if hes on the warrior or shammy (assuming shammy is using shield). the priest is a problem because of mana burn, but you can mitigate that to some extent and the addition of grounding totem helps a bit as well. keeping on the mage provides, imo, the best chance for your setup to win due to the fact that youre not only trying to kill a main DPS but also forcing that main DPS to spend more time evading than DPSing. with purge to take off heals and buffs the mage will be quite helpless vs the warrior, with only ice block to save him. once the mage ice blocks, have your shammy get ready to cycle interrupts with you and the warrior if needed. dont commit entirely to the priest; as soon as that happens the mage will unblock and begin counter control measures. have the shammy stay near the mage while the warrior intercepts the priest and begins interrupting in concert with you and the shammy. done right you can keep the priest from doing more than a rewew and a prom on the mage, which the shammy can purge as soon as ice block wears off. then youve got 30s to kill the mage before another ice block becomes available.

also, tell your shammy to just spam the **** out of purge. stripping every opponent of buffs is a huge advantage, and its likely the priest does the same thing to you guys once battle is engaged.
