#1 Jun 29 2008 at 3:46 PM Rating: Decent

* {question i forgot about} what is best to put in a red slot as kitty dps? agi? ap? strength?

Yeah: http://www.emmerald.net/, specifically by slot at http://www.emmerald.net/Cat_DPS/Head.html

Agility, because it gives you not just attack power (at a rate of 1.1 per point) but crit and dodge, a little bit of armor, and it scales with BoK.

In fact, for dps gear it's best to slot agility in ANY color slot unless the socket bonus is extremely attractive. Like 2 red sockets and a yellow, with a bonus of +3 hit, I'd socket a 4 hit/4 agility orange gem to get 7 hit at the cost of 4 agility.

I honestly don't know for sure, and I expect to learn more definitely when somebody else answers this question, but for now I'll share my non-scientific take which is that the regular lists are like "up to Kara" and high gear lists are "past Kara."

I think that because "high gear" for both assumes Blessing of Kings, and it's only safe to "assume" BoK is going to be up most of the time in 25-man raids. Also, the regular bear list suggests gemming for stamina, and the high-gear lists suggests gemming for agility, and that's something most people say you should start doing once you get up around 15k health. High-gear bear lists assumes crit imunity, too, which means that in the regular gear list +def and +resil are more valued, and then when you're ready for high-gear list you know enough to keep it there.

Basically, use the regular gear list until you feel like you're a badass, then start using high gear. If you're unsure like me, check both.

Jeebar's pretty much covered everything, but I'll just mention that if you're really stuck in trying to decide about possible upgrades, or which item is better for you, it's better to use a simulator like http://druid.wikispaces.com/ToskksDPSGearMethod because it more accurately takes into account how the item works in conjunction with the other gear you already have.

Emmerald's lists are great for a general idea, and I used then exclusively up until about T5 content, but once you really want to tweak your dps, use a simulator.

About the macro you mentioned, a simple:

/cast Nature's Swiftness
/cast Healing Touch (rank 13)

should work, but you'd have to manually switch back to ToL. You could probably add a conditional onto lifebloom or something similar to switch you back into ToL if you were in caster form, but in all honestly I wouldn't bother. At worst you're using NS every 3 minutes, so I don't think one click is too much effort.

Toskk's DPS simulator or Emmerald's list, Toskk's let's you plug in more info, and it has a good value for set bonuses (like how awesome 2t4 is). http://druid.wikispaces.com/ToskksDPSGearMethod

You can cancel form during the GCD, but you can't shift into a form (ask any kitty that power shifts a lot), so you can't make a NS+HT+back to ToL macro.

Cats always want Agi gems unless you're trying to meet the req for your meta gem. Past the 2 yellow/blue/red for your Relentless Earthstorm Diamond, Toskk's simulator gives you a value for how much DPS you're gaining from a socket bonus vs losing from not using +8/10 Agi gems.

Also, if you click the "Info" tab on Emmerald's list, he tells you the stats he used to make the 2 tanking and DPS lists. Basically, the first list is through Kara, Gruul, Mag, and starting ZA. Once you're into SSC and TK (or the higher end BoJ gear), you should use the second list.
