New Player, Class Quest ProblemFollow

My husband and I are new to WoW and this kind of adventure game in general. We didn't realize a lot of things, and one is the apparent importance of class quests.

My husband has a human paladin. He is now level 29, and he says none of the paladin trainers will talk to him. I was searching around online, and started reading about these quests, and I'm wondering if this is the problem. He said he failed the quest to defend Daphne Stillwell, and he said the game wouldn't let him pick up the quest again. He just kept playing, and he's now at level 29.

Is there any way he can continue his training? Or is there nothing he can do and he'll have to delete the character and start over!?

I'm also wondering in general, is there a lot of "must do" quests? I have a paladin, and both my husband and myself have a warrior, as well, and we're thinking of trying out other classes, too. I was hoping you could just play WoW without having to read tips all the time, be free to just stumble though and do what you like in the game, but it's starting to look like this isn't the right game for that..

There are no MUST do quests. There are quests that will allow you access to certain areas, but never required to go beyond a certain XP point, this isn't FFXI after all.

Has your husband tried abandoning the quest and then talking to daphne again? I don't know if you'd need to talk to Daphne or her husband outside IF for the restart on it, but you can pretty much always retry a quest.

He shouldn't have any problems gaining training, all paladin class trainers should have the "Train me in the ways of the light" bit he can click on and learn spells. Only certain trainers will offer the quests though, so that may be what's holding him up.

You can play any class however you want, it's completely up to you. If you want to have a mage with toms of +Str cloth and who melee's with a sword, so be it. You may not level too fast, but if you're having fun, it's all good. Parties with others may be an issue because everyone has certain ideas about how a class is supposed to be played, but if they don't like it, play with someone else. 7/10 will try and help you/explain how things work to make you a better player, 3/10 will call you names and berate you in general chat, and those are the people you probably didn't want to play with anyway.

Any other questions, just ask :)

Also.. a wonderful thing about WoW is that's there's absolutly no way you can ***** a character up so badly that you have to restart. You can always abandon quests and retake them, you can always respec or change gear (especially instance gear which you can effectivly get a thousand times if you lose/delete/DE it). The only somewhat bad thing is if you DE quest-reward gear.. it's gone. But there's only a few permanent quest reward items :D

Nothing is permanent, and everything is done on cookiecutter templates. I know I certainly do enjoy games that kick the #$(*& out of you if you plan poorly early on sometimes, but WoW has a much more universal appeal in that sense.

Thanks for the help. I think he may have gone to the wrong person to try to restart the quest.

It is important to note that if your husband is level 29 and is trying to re-start the level 20 paladin quest there probably WILL NOT BE a yellow ! showing on the person who starts the quest, because the quest is now considered to be "low-level". That does not matter, all he has to do is find the correct person (Daphne Stilwell or Duthorian Rall or whoever) and click on them. Whichever person is correct will STILL let him have the quest even though the big yellow ! wasn't there anymore.
