Holy spec paladinFollow

I play a lvl 53 holy pally. I was just wondering what a good weapon would be to use for now or at higher lvls. I was told that 2 handed weapons are not good for my spec? Help is appreciated. =)

You don't want to use a 2-H weapon during instance healing. You get much better stats off of a shield (or an offhand item at lower levels). Since you are still leveling you have the option of using whatever you want during quests which don't require you to play main healer. I used a number of 2-H weapons off and on until about level 67 for questing/solo play. In the end I discovered that a good 1-H weapon and a decent shield was providing just as much dps as a hard hitting 2-h weapon. Forget about seeing big numbers from your melee hits. As a healer you won't have access to the talents and skills which make using a 2-H weapon worthwhile. In combat you will rely primarily on Seal of Righteousness combined with shocks/judgments to kill mobs. But don't fret...you can get some respectable numbers from your offensive spells which our Ret and Prot brothers will never match.

I wouldn't stress over it too much until you get to the Outlands. You will come across a couple decent healer shields as quest rewards from the first zone.

my answer to this question is to respec ret until 60. then go holy if you want to instance your way to 70.

A 1H weapon with good spell damage is the best thing. However, you don't really have many options pre-Outland. So.......I went the 2H route. That being said, IBS is a great weapon (if you can win an AV), and will easily carry you into Outland.

Once you are in Outland, the spell damage gear is more avialable, and your options for Holy specific weapons are there. You will pretty much move to 1H + shield for soloing and instances.

Of course, if you plan on healing instances in Azeroth, then you should make sure to get a good 1H weapon and shield with as much +Int as you can find. Of course, the one KTurner recommended is the other quest reward with IBS. So, you'd have to decide.

Wasn't this pretty good pre-expansion? I remember using it as my healing weapon for a long time.

Point is a 1H + shield won't always be the best choice, but come expansion content more often then not a 1H + shield will give the better stats. Prot always wants a shield, Ret always wants a slow 2H, Holy has the option of whichever gives the better stats.

EDIT: not saying that mace is currently viable, just stating the point that pre-Outland it is very much an option that a 2H will be the better choice. Just wanted to clarify :)

That is a drop from Strat though. By the time you get that drop, you could've probably leveled 5x. Plus, that is really the only 2H weapon to consider. So I would probably classify that as a very rare exception to the 1H + shield generalization. If you really really want it, then go for it. However, chances are that you would get something much better and faster by going to Outland and getting a 1H + Shield.

You are correct though, in that 2H or 1H doesn't really matter. It is the stats you are looking for. Those stats are just better (99% of the time) on 1H weapons and shields.
