Sorry that this doesnt pertain to mage information but I like it on this forum than the wow general forum...and I am mage but anyway... So a high lvl guildie offered to run me through stocks and help me out and whatnot...so we met in sw and we decided we would try and help others too so we went on the channel and said if any lowbie wanna run through stocks pst....So we get these other toons from another guild in our group who were both lowbie and ran them through. So we get a drop that we all have to roll for ...I cant even remember what drop it was but I knew I wanted it for my fiance's hunter toon. Well I won the roll and the other random guy we had in grp started hardcore making offhanded comments about how a mage didnt need that roll and he should have it. So I said "dude I won the roll thats how it is, just play the game." He kept going and I finally said "Ok so your telling me you never got a roll that you used for any of your alts!?" ofcourse he said "no never, and I have bla bla bla bla toons". So they left the group and started yelling "LEARN HOW TO PLAY THE GAME". And here is what got me ....20 min later he send me a tell "hey man sorry I acted like that its jsut you can get in big trouble if you do stuff like that". So I said "Listen man if you want those boots I will give em to you" But he never send me back a msg so I ended up keepin em. Bascially that was my first confrontation in WoW and I just wanted to know if that WAS unruly of me to do that so I can avoid stupid crap in the future....thanks fellow mages ....

p.s. After the stocks I dueled his hunter *** and won....MAGES ROCK!!!!!!

Normally, you shouldn't Need for an alt or off-spec unless you discuss it with the group first, and they agree. Common courtesy.

Now, that being said, your guildie was running his butt through the instance (for free - I assume), so he/she should've just been greateful for the xp and quest completions.

Yes and No.

If you did that on a BOP - you are totally wrong.

If it's a BOE - in general - Everyone I've ever run with greeds. If you NEED something you can't use, it's considered wrong. Almost across the board. However, you can greed anything. I've had this argument before on this board.

The rule that has worked for me in PUGs:

Need everything you can use right away (ask first, but you have the right to Need something that... you need)
Need anything you could use in a lvl or two if you are the only class capable of using it (ask though)
Greed everything else (For DE or sales purposes)

Pass only to be nice - or on items you already own/wear. (I generally get annoyed when something nice drops, I lose, and the guy says "wow, now I have 2 of XYZ")

yeah the simplest way to avoid any problems is to just be polite and ask first. explain your reasoning for taking it upfront that way issues dont arise. All the rules of looting and passing and what not are great but just asking up front is ten times better than the most comprehensive looting rules ever devised.

But yeah i think you were right, it was your guildies, you had a good reason for taking it (even though they didnt know), and they didnt ask if they could have it so obviously it wasnt that important to them. I award you one point.
