hi all,

I'm looking for some help running ret/rogue.

I picked up a decent retardin for 2v2 at the start of s4. We've been doing pretty well, but a good healadin on the opposing team always seems to beat us. theo, I've read your guide for ret rogue but it doesn't mention how to deal with holy pallies, so I'm askng for some assistance (perhaps some strategies on how to beat them.) We've tried to bubble and BoP and reset the fight, but the pally will shock me into combat or I'll have a spell DoT on me and I've already burned cloak. Any suggestions?

Sorry for any typing mistakes, this is from my iPhone ^_^

im not a pvp expert I sit around 1700 bracket myself, but it seems to me like you just need more practice IMO and maybe time your cooldowns better, we usually CC the Holy paladin until he blows his trinket and Bubble then reset ill vanish and our Ret pali will bubble if needed. Hope this helps but Im sure the more experienced Pvpers can give you some better tips.

Stop burning CloS early. There's no reason to burn it early.

Paladins really shouldn't be an issue. You're going to be making them try to kite you around pillars since if they sit still, they'll be taking huge amounts of damage.

Try watching Stgeorge3 over at WCM, it'll give you more ideas.

Honestly, it sounds like you just don't have either enough gear or enough experience.

There should be nearly no reason for you to burn CloS early on in the fight against a paladin team; the only caster they team well with are locks, and it's stupid to cloak early against locks; they're just going to put dots back up on you. Save it for BoP or until you can duck around a pillar, CloS, and bandage.

I'm running with 340 resil, 10.5k hp and 1850+ experience. (Unlike a lot of people, I didn't play some 2k+ rated rogue to play my acct for me to get weps.)

Most of the time, Theo, I burn cloak to get out of a fear. I try to kick gouge DT and LoS all the fears that I can, but i'm not pro like Neilyo (lul) so I can't escape 9 fears in a row while on a separate target. I'm getting WitchHunt though so I can see better when the lock is casting it.

Thanks for the video link though, learned a couple things and I will show it to my partner as well. I rarely use cloak to get rid of full DoTs, but the thing is I burn it right when they get their DoTs all on so it will be cooled before BoP. (This apparently hasn't been working too well.) If the pally has decent gear cloak will probably be cooled by the time he bubbles. (Or if the pally and lock are well coordinated) but it seems that I should just save it and eat the DoTs. I could also get the pally to cleanse them whenever he's not attacking our focus.

You can't cloak out of a fear, unless by that you mean putting cloak up to take a fear for you.

If that's the case, Vanish works much better. You have generally one, maybe two cloaks, and you for sure have two vanishes. With how unlikely it'll be to get a good Vanish off on a lock team, use it to break that first incoming fear.

That's what I do against many teams with locks and rogues. After you open, and put up a KS/Rupture, Vanish right away. Rogues usually spam CS going in, so you'll pop them out of stealth without eating the CS, and for a lock, they'll have wasted a second of cast time on fear.

I'd also suggest SpellAlerter from WoWInterface over WitchHunt. WitchHunt has a lot of **** that you really don't need to see enabled by default and doesn't have icons like SpellAlerter does. It makes it much easier to Vanish incoming fears/PoMPyros/Cyclones/Polys (not that you want to Vanish Cyclone/Poly) when you see their icon rather than watching for the thing of text in a ******** of spam that WitchHunt gives you.

Thanks for the input all. Rate-ups all around. And Theo, you seem to be the guru of everything that I do - PvP, theorycrafting (although I usually do it for fun or to help out a guildmate) and addons.
