Skill as a RogueFollow

Many people cannot recognize skill when they see it, instead they recognize someones gear and judge "Wow he must be good, he has full vengeful" or "You have 4/5 vengeful and merciless shoulders you will obviously beat me", when in actuality they could have terrible skill and just been an early 70 and gradually gotten that gear, and never become skilled, and when you are actually skilled but your gear isn't that great they automatically assume, "Your gear sucks, therefore, you suck...", this is infuriating and drives me insane, I am, in this case the person who excels at out skilling people having beaten many vengeful rogues 1v1 and many others in full vengeful, with my questionable gear, but people think I get lucky and won and won't reduel because they "Weren't trying".

Does anyone else know what I'm talking about when I state the difference between gear and skill?

There's a difference between gear and skill and there's also a difference between sucking at arena and being good at duels.

Anyone who thinks duels prove anything are ******* morons.

Duels and arena are two completely different animals...it's kinda silly to compare them :) I duel with friends and it's non stressful and full of laughter. Arena on the other hand is totally stressful and I stink at it. I however try to read and learn from other players in hopes of getting better slowly over time.

If I beat another rogue wearing 3/5 vengeful gear do I think I'm some super pvper? Does it matter? Who cares what gear I have and what gear they have. Duelling should be for fun. If the other player doesn't want to duel you again after you won once, take it as a compliment and move on. Just think to your myself that they're scared of you and move on :)

Anywho, it's just game, just enjoy yourself and continue to beat better geared opponents.

My skill manifests itself in the complex technique I employ whilst spamming the hemo button.

If only it would manifest itself in 4-4 and Glaives =(

Duels actually mean quite a lot. Arena is about team play, communication and such with individual skill put on the back burner. Duels are tests of individual skill. In theory, though it only works if you duel good players.

WoW's a pretty easy game in all walks, though, especially as a Rogue.

I suck at duels...royally!

What do I do then? Nothing, just move on...

I don't really care about the duels...

Just because I can't be bothered to beat somebody in a duel, does that mean I suck?

Clearly because I enjoy the guild that I raid with and am only in T5 content means I suck compared to someone who doesn't care about the people they are with and only wants to be in high level raiding.

Well, in some people's cases, it does, in others', it doesn't.

The ideal would be to be in a guild of people you enjoy and care about, and also raiding the highest-end content. You have to be pretty lucky to come upon an opportunity like that, though. (And of course, you have to have skill.)

Duels are fun, but they don't prove sh**. I can rock just about any class in a duel, without much regard to gear. Arenas are a different story, and dueling doesn't really help your skillset in Arenas. It may help you learn how to fight a certain class, but doesn't help the mechanics of team based play.

So..yea...dueling should be for laughs and chest thumping.

People who are 4/5 vengeful or some variant

1) earn it
2) buy points
3) buy their account
4) have been around long enough to get it through welfare (aka losing teams)

seriously ive beaten s3 locks rogues warriors, and i was in mostly that tier0 pvp honor set. me and a lock in our 2s team have beaten some pretty well geared teams. it is skill, cooporation, teamwork, synergy, and a little bit of luck, but its possible to turn a losing situation into a winning one.
things such as a vanish->sap, a well timed blind after a trinket pop, a howl of terror at the right time, etc all make a difference.

i think in this game the definition of skill is the ability to perform these very quick precise actions, intelligently, quickly, a good deal of the time. its hard to be perfect all the time, but the people who can do these things more oftan than normal but are not too unlike those in baseball, where some of the best players still get 2 strikes out of three,
