Feral vs. BalanceFollow

I appolize if this is a stupid question but I'll ask it anyway. Currently I am Feral spec'd at level 46. I typically group with a Warrior and a Shadow Priest so I typically handle DPS in Cat form and occassionally switch to Dire Bear to off tank during an instance. My question is am I taking the right approach by using Feral or should I re-spec to Balance? Which would provide better DPS for the group? I realize that at this stage its probably not as important as it will be when I reach the higher levels but I wanted to get some early input. Here is my character from wow armory, any advise in how I can improve would be greatly apreciated. Thanks.

My opinion is admittedly biased, but I'd say stick with feral if you enjoy it. Over Balance, you have the advantge of not using your mana for DPS. If you need to switch from healing to DPS and back again, you don't have to worry about going OOM. The downside is that melee is vulnerable to all the PBAoE (point-blank AoE) that ranged DPS can avoid.

Well, I leveled to 50 as Balance and then switched to Feral. I have to say, I am so happy I did.

Reasons for my switch:
1. many resisted spells from equal to higher level mobs. As a druids mana pool is smaller, I found I could kill 2 or so mobs and then have to drink.
2. I soloed mostly so going feral meant less down time.

Now, for your current group, balance might be better as your moonkin buff is helpful to casters. You can still off tank as bear, just not as well.

DPS wish, I still think feral is better but your moonkin buff is also nice if you always have a caster in the group.

I just got tired of having to drink every few kills so after I went feral, my downtime went way down.

Personal preference mind you. What do you enjoy playing? I already had 2 lvl70 casters so I felt like going melee :)

Anyways, hope that helps a bit

Feral can do excellent melee damage, and your ILotP buff helps that warrior tank.

With an spriest you already have a ranged damage dealer/healer.

But if you enjoy balance, go balance. We're talking about marginal benefits here. Both dps well.

Thanks for the input. I am looking forward to getting Mangle so I think I'll stick to Feral for now. I love the opening move of Ponce and than Shred. I just got to level 46 so I havn't had to much oppurtunity to see how the LotP buff will affect the group play. I have another friend who has a Mage alt that he's trying to catch to us with. When that happens I'll have to see how I can adapt for the group. Thats the great thing about Druid I can adapt my play for the situation.

I haven't played a caster type class yet but I started a new alt of a Warlock to see how I like the caster playing style. I currently have him at level 22.

I would also like anyone opinion on the gear I currently an using. I concentrated on adding Agility and Stamina Stats. Does anyone see anything I should have changed. You can see my gear from the WoW Armory link in the original post.

Thanks again.

Well, if you are going to try a caster, warlocks are by far the easiest to play. Tonnes of DPS and survivability. Mages are right up there as well.

As for gear, I would personally go for these stats in this order

DPS:
Strength
Agility
Stamina

Also, if you wish, have 2 sets of gear, one dps, and one tanking. That way, you can change your play style when you need.

Tanking:

Stamina
Agility
Strength

Again, that is my personal opinion but as I said, I have played caster toons before and I love my feral druid. Once you get mangle...wow, dps goes WAY up.

Good luck
