Is there something special about distract that I'm not getting? Twice today I've used distract (an elemental and a nether drake in Netherstorm) and, instead of turning my target, I found it actually aggro'd them. This is completely new in my experience; is there some nuance I'm not aware of?

Are you using it in stealth? If not, that might be your problem aggroing those mobs.

Have you gone toward them right when you distract? Usually movement right away can still aggro a mob.

arukomp, if I remember correctly, you need to be in stealth anyway to use it. Otherwise you're unable to. Then again, I haven't used distract in a long time.

you can use distract unstealthed. It's fun in PVP :P

Noc you can use distract out of stealth. The only time I do it is if I am in AV and someone is riding by while I just killed something. It makes them run that direction and sometimes right into your arms. Distract is, in my opinion, a very useful tool in certain situations that people tend to forget. Besides nothing is more fun than distracting Vann into a rogue that stealths behind him while waiting on North and South Bunkers to cap.

feyras, thanks for that. I never thought about using distract on allied (NPC) chars to kill other stuff. I usually just use drums of panic behind a group of allies while im stealthed and have them run into Drek / Galv feared. But this opens up a whole new world of rogue annoyingness :)

I was using it in stealth, yeah. The thing is, I used it and moved up immediately, but I was at such a distance that I still wouldn't have aggro'd while in stealth. It was just an immediate "use distract, suddenly there's a shadow bolt headed my way" kind of thing.

Did the mobs resist your distract? Is it even possible for a mob to resist distract?

It's possible for it to be resisted, but no, it wasn't. It did everything normal except the part where, instead of turning, they acted like I had whacked them.

Good to know about distract out of stealth. As I said, I haven't used it in a while, so I wasn't sure. I definitely should try that in EoTS lol.

Bismarck, and you said you threw the distract away from them and not to where they are facing you?

Hmmm... I haven't heard of it, but perhaps you threw it too close to them (like within a few feet)?

i seem to recall reading that distract also prolonged the duration of both blind and sheep. I tried it in Arena and i haven't noticed anything. Does anybody use this trick ? I'll try again next few arena fights.

It used to bug a person's character out in that they'd still wander even when their player was under control.

It's been stealth nerfed since.

Distract is really good for sapping too especially when your combat. Sometimes we do TK and not many mages on so we Sap the mobs and it would almost be impossible without distract.
