Tips for Cheeky's SpreadsheetFollow

I just started using this spreadsheet as I just hit level 70 not too long ago. It is not a super user friendly spreadsheet and was pretty overwhelming to me and I assume some others. Rather than take another topic off topic I figured it'd be best to start a new one. So this is for anyone who have questions on the spreadsheet as well as people who are familiar with it to offer tips. I am going to steal from the S2 topic that ProjectMidnight said.

Are you using Excel or Open Office? If you're using excel, make sure that all macros are fully enabled. The options for in Office 2003 it are somewhere in the settings (probably under "security settings"). I'm using Office 07, and the options are under Excel Settings > Trust Center > Trust Center Settings > Macro Settings. I really hate how it's set up, but whatever.

For me, the "Load Gear from Armory" button doesn't work but it seems nothing can really load stuff from the Armory very well.

Something that took me a while to figure out was on the "Settings and Results" tab that we can and should change the names under the title "Profiles." For instance, I make the first one called "Current." This is going to be my base profile. I never saw the cell at A22 saying, "Click in cells above to change profile names" until I changed the profile names. Maybe others pay attention better than me, but if there aren't bouncing boobs on my comp screen then I might miss things.

Next go to the "Gear" tab. At 70, Cheeky has much of the gear that you would get in an easy drop down menu. If your item isn't listed there, just select "Custom" in the drop down box and the go to the "Custon Gear" tab to manually enter the stats on the item. Finish entering all of your gear.

Then go to the "Talents" tab and make sure it reflects what you have chosen.

Continue to fill out the "Buffs" tab if you want to see what you can do with buffs (I turned them all off because at this point I am just seeing what gear is better and I am not raiding yet) Move on to the "Pet" tab and fill that out as well, it is very self explanatory.

Now you can start playing with the "Shot Rotation" tab and hopefully others can provide better tips here. I just click each button, let it do its calculations and then go back to the gear tab to see my total DPS. For me it has always been either 1:1 (Priority) with Priority 1 set to Arcane and #2 set to Steady or the 3:2 but I do click each button and note the DPS as well as change the "Macro" from spam to cast-sequence to hand-weaved. Once I get the highest DPS I go back to the "Gear" tab and select whatever profile I was working on from the drop down box in cell B6, in this case it would be called "Current."

Then click "Save Profile" on that same tab it is should save it for you and put the results of it in the "Settings and Results" tab.

Now you can start playing the, "what happens if I switch out item XYZ for item ABC" It looks like you can have 10 different profiles saved at a time so play away.

I am only one week into this thing, but I just wanted to share what took me a while to figure out in case it might help others. I would also love to see you experienced hunters give other tips or pitfalls of the spreadsheet. If nothing else it makes me not work as much at my real job so that can't be a bad thing right???

Is your "Load Gear from Armory" button clickable, but returns an error? If that's the case, you should just download the latest version of the spreadsheet. I had that issue with one version a while back, but the very next version that was put out remedied that problem.

If you click it, and it just doesn't do anything at all, your security settings are too high. That's what I was talking about when I made sure to fully enable macros. A macro is a script that automates functions. These macros can have hidden and dangerous scripts that collect information about your computer and send it off somewhere else, or can download viruses and stuff. But don't worry, all cheeky's spreadsheet does is contact the armory, and request a return on what gear [character] on [Realm] is wearing, and plugs it into the appropriate slot.

If enabling macros doesn't work, it could be an issue with Excel not being able to access the internet, which is likely a firewall issue. Make sure that whatever firewall you're using hasn't blocked Excel from accessing the web.

Edit:
I found out that the ranged critical hit chance that it displays will always be 1.53% lower than your tooltip crit because its target is a boss.
Also, if you want to know your tooltip RAP (something that I have always wanted), you can go to "settings and results" turn off "Average out +AP on-user Trinkets," then go to Calculations, and it's in row 19, column B.

I really wish that Cheeky would add in tooltip totals. I know the point of the spreadsheet is to ignore your gut feeling about numbers, and just look at calculated DPS- but I still want to know what my numbers would be without having to jump through hoops.

ya I get an error message that says,

"The server name or address could not be resolved" and yes I am at work behind a crazy firewall, so I will give it a go at home tonight. Good call.
