Im always reading that guilds are crying out for shaman but, are they wanted as tanks or healers or anything else?????
Ive just started one and was wondering which talent trees for me based on what people want.

Typically healer (resto spec), but shamans also put out great dps as enhancement (melee) or elemental (spell caster). For leveling, enhancement is the way to go.
Good luck getting into a group as an enhancement shaman. Good luck, especially when it comes to raids and dailies. Everyone expects you to be resto...only the most uber-geared enhancement shaman will have a raid spot. Not because they can't necessarily do great dps and buff the group, more due to the general ignorance of how a competent enhancement shaman can help a group.
Not spotted in any reply yet: a shaman is NOT a tank. Let me repeat that very clearly: A SHAMAN IS NOT A TANK.

When looking for group I always advertise my services as dps/backup healer. I always carry around a couple pieces of healing gear plus mana pots. So far I haven't had any problems getting into groups. I'm only lvl 50 now, so looking foward to taking my hybrid into outland.
People will want you to be full resto with 1200+ healing to go for a heroic.

Not sure what realm you play on, but this isn't true for all realms. When looking for members a lot of people are just looking for what they need. Oh you're a shammy healer? Sorry we've already got a priest. Oh you're a shammy dps? Sure, come on board. If people need you, they'll take you.
Really you can count shamans as environmental activists. I mean most of what we do when not saving Azeroth from some demonic infestation is cleaning up the environment. If you want to play a shaman I think political environmentalism is more of what you are looking at. I don't really see healing or tanking, or even damage dealing being the focus.

On my realm I have no problem getting the healing spot for a heroic, 1200+ for a heroic might be a little on the LOW side though as a shaman healer to attempt a heroic.
I find that enhancement shamans and elemental shamans rarely are useful in heroics as they do not have any cc. No CC = Dps Only which isnt enough to fill a spot in a heroic most times.
If you are going to play an enhancement or elemental setup you might have to think about a healing set to use on the side as it will be a rough leveling ride trying to find groups. Its pretty bad when a group will pick a BM hunter over a dps specced shaman any day.

Yeah +1200 is probably the bare minimum for the more easier heroics

I'm enhancement, 1700ap, always have a raid spot, or guild run, but can't get a pug to save my life, since we have no cc, we are last to be picked for a 5 man, they will take a rogue over you all day long.
