My hunter is now 60 and i've had my cat since 30 and has accumilated a lot of training points, he gets 5 points everytime he lvl's, but i like those raptors in blades edge mountain.
So if i get one at lvl 65 by the time i get him and me to 70 he wont have anywhere near the amount of training points as my cat, so will it make any difference in what i can train my pet at 70? will he be gimped?
many thanks.

Unless you plan on having your pet tank (which outside of PvE is suicide) I don't think it will make a huge difference. Not sure about other hunters, but for 5-10 mans I usually only have cower (because I'm paranoid), cobra reflexes, the AoE thing, a claw or bite skill, a few resistances, and dive/dash/charge. Pets in groups and raids are just extra dps to me, or decent off tanks or clinch CC.
So, bottom line; sure, it won't be as good as your cat, but it'll do. But you may want to ask others.

A pet at any given level will have the same training points. Feed pet level happiness train pet in accordance with the various posts here or petopia.

A ravager will do slightly more damage than a cat - but looks stupid. This is the only place that I accept a little less DPS for looks.

Cower is useless. In raids or instances your tank will not lose aggro to your pet, as long as growl is turned off it will never happen. If your tank loses aggro to your pet with growl off leave the group immediately and never group with tank again. (After you rez, cause you will get that aggro first for sure)

Read Mulgrins sticky.

Read Aethiens sticky.

I also hate those ravegers but i do like those raptors in bades edge, and they also do the same damage as cats but with more armor.(acording to petopia)

I did not think Raptors did as much damage as Cats. However, Petopia lists them as +10% DPS with claw trainable. But, you will sacrifice some HP, which is more valuable in raids and high level dungeons as most damage taken by your pet will be AOE, which is magic and not mitigated by armor. Sorry about getting a little short, you obviously have done research. Your pet when initially trained may show some negative training points when initially trained but that is due to a special skill (some pets have them) but at the end of the day will have the same points available for training.

I'm not sure that's 100% correct. I know for a fact that if you train a pet with zero skills it has zero training points. This happened to me yesterday because I wanted to get a new ca, then decided it wasn't worth the work. But maybe loyalty level gains bridge the gap? I'm not sure.
Even so, you don't need some 5 thousand training points, as long as you have the important skills on your pet. Dash equivalent, claw or bite, cobra reflexes (a personal choice), the AoE mitigator, some spell resistances (fire and ice are my personal favorites, followed by shadow) and cower (Because, like I said, I'm paranoid as it's harder for a pet to lose aggro than it is for me).

In short, read my previous post.

EDIT: Oh, and don't forget Greater Stamina, or whatever they call it. That's important too. Moreso than reflexes and speed skills (dive, dash, charge).

All pets of the same level and loyalty level have the same training points available, period. The reason some pets start out with negative numbers when first tamed is because they already come with skills but only have level 1 loyalty. All this is covered at Petopia, see the link below.

I concede defeat. I knew about why they had negative points, just not the even bit.

So thread answered.
