Ok, so I'm getting less into soloing and more into raids. My guild is doing Kara at the moment, and I'm starting to become one of the regulars. I'm not quite getting the same damage as other mages in the group, I understand they do have better gear than me, but I still don't think I'm reaching maximum potential for the gear that I have.

I would like to be able to maximise my damage for Kara in-particular, i would also like to have an easier to use interface. So I can get spells off faster.

At the moment, I'm not really wanting to hear 'you have crap gear, get this.....' I am working on my gear, getting mats and running instances, and I have worked out what I would like :)

So for the moment, just maximizing my potential :D

So my questions are :

1. Is there any better way to respec? Please note: I would much prefer to stay frost :) I was fire, but I feel I do better as frost.. Plus I have shadowcloth gear, and I don't want to turn around and spend ages getting spellcloth gear

2. I've been having some issues with interface. I don't think my spells are set out quite the way they should be. I -think- the order of my hotkeys is (I would check, but its down for maintenance)
Frost Nova, Frostbolt, Ice lance, Cone of cold, Blizzard, Fireball, Scorch, Fire blast, Arcane Blast, Arcance Missiles, Counterspell (and I'm missing one :/)
Is there any other important spells I should have on the main hotkeys?

3. Macro's... I've been thinking some macro's might be helpful, people seem to talk about having them, I have searched and searched, but I can't find any mage ones i would find useful. I was thinking some /stopcast /cast counterspell kind of things..

4. Addons... I have cryolysis. I find it very helpful :) But thats about it... I was wondering if there are any more mage-specific addons out there that are really necessary? Or that you found good?

So yeah... Thats my questions :) If you can help out with any of them, I would love to hear from you :) Even if it is just a word or two :) And links to sites you found helpful would also be great :D

1) Respec? 17/0/44 is more of a PvP build and yours is not cookie cutter. I have said it before, and I'll say it again, arcane fortitude should be removed from the game. Personally, when I raided with frost, I went deep frost, but I had some better gear than you have now. What I would do if you want to remain frost is probably go: 40/0/21 to get the additional spell damage from the arcane tree to help you out until you hit 800 spell damage, then go to deep frost (something like 2/0/59 or 10/0/51). Also, you don't have frost channeling, which will help with mana in longer boss fights. I don't know if you are having mana issues or not. You could also look to make sure you use invisibility once in a while if you climb up the threat meter. That alone will increase your dps as well.

2) You should have polymorph hot-keyed and macroed, but this doesn't really apply in kara as everything there is undead.

3) Macros

4) Addons: a) omen b) recount. You will use recount to see how much dps you are pumping out. Ensure you use your trinkets and such when they are up. Oh... and replace that mushroom trinket, it is worthless in raids. If you have any badges at all, there are some wonderful trinkets there to pick up, or if you want to spend some cash on darkmoon cards. This website will have a list of trinkets at the bottom that can increase your dps.

40/0/21 can give you some good sized frostbolts with respectable crits, not to mention the joys of trinket/arcane power/icy veins, very useful when you take the blue beam against Netherspite or Curator goes into his evocation. 20/0/41 I've found gives me a little bit better overall DPS, adding in the elemental for some occasional support.

Remove Curse is important in some Kara encounters; I'd remove your Arcane Blast, Arcane Missiles, Fireball, and Scorch from your hotkeys. I'd also look into setting up different key bindings. You're going to want to have a free slot open for a macro or two.

DoTimer/Cooldown Timer. DoTimer is a tremendous help for watching the sheep. I also suggest xPerl, I can generally see when mobs are casting so I know when to counterspell; Bongos or Bartender to set up the bars with exactly what I need. Cryolisis IS awesome for managing buffs/food/ports, it really saves a lot of room.

Ok, on to gear.

First, fix your hit rating. 44 is simply awful, you want to get it up to 126. Scratch that, you're a Draenei, so get it to 114. Also, if you want to raid and maximize damage, drop the PvP spec, and put 3/3 into Elemental Precision. DO NOT get Shatter, and depending on how deep you go into frost, even though it kills me as a frost mage for not having, skip Ice Barrier. If you pull aggro or the tank dies, Ice Barrier only really serves as a mild security blanket, it won't withstand the damage from a boss.

As for gear, +spell hit first until you're at 114, then get +spell damage. Don't even think of doing +stamina gems. As for getting some upgrades, click here.

It takes a lot of time, but you can do very well in Kara as frost.

1) I raided as 10/0/51 all the way so far and managed to do decent enough damage in Kara when I started out (of course this is relative to other group members), I did have somewhat better gear than you though (full FSW and spellstrike). For build I'd suggest this as the minimal talents you want for a more frost orientated build (though you may want to go 40/0/21 at lower spell dmg as someone above said).

Personally I like Ice Barrier (for soloing and pvp), Ice Floes (for longer fights to get extra IV/WE) and the rest can be stuck in aoe talents or into frostbite/shatter for soloing or trash (I went the aoe route myself).

2) Hotkey your cooldowns, or have them built into your main nuke macros (I prefer to have a seperate button for these). Ideally you want a WE macro (should be one on the link someone put above) that uses a damage increasing trinket before summoning the WE (so it gets the bonus) and use IV (though I have mine on a seperate key). Ice Block aswell is particularly handy for some encounters (Moroes, Maiden, Illhoof) and you'll want cold snap relatively available so you can reset your frost cooldowns when needed.

My addons include xperl, bongos3, diamond, decursive, omnicc, dbm, and quartz.
I would very highly recommend quartz as not only does it take the latency into effect, it also has your debuff timers, and if you use focus macroes it will also show your focus debuff timers.

Macros to increase damage will include those to proc all your items with one button instead of clicking all your trinkets and stuff separately.

Spec was covered by other posters already, and I never raided much as frost except the weekly one fight respec for illidan.
