I personally haven't done it, but the other healer for my kara group did it. Holy Priest with 1700 healing said it was probably one of the hardest things she's ever had to heal.

You mean Ahune right?

Yeah I tried 5 times the other day. 5 fails later (None of us had a clue as to how the fight went) and a little smarter we gave up for the night. I think there were issues with some people not moving out of the ice shards.

I really want the chant and staff for my Boomkin.

I think we have the fight down now and with a reshuffle of our group I think we will be downing him e few times before the event is over.

While on the topic, what is everyone using for their groups?

We had:

1 Mage
1 Shammy (Heals)
1 Hunter
1 Warrior
1 Druid (me, Balance)

There were gear and mana issues so I will be looking to swap out someone for a well geared shadow preist when we run again.

I've knocked him out about 20 times now (each group summons him five times). Biggest tip: DON'T TANK THE BOSS. Only thing you have to worry about is the biggest elemental he spanws at the beginning of each fight phase. Dps the big one down as fast as possible (good to have some aoe too keep the little ones to a minimum while dpsing the big one). Once the big elemental is dead you go to cat form and tear up the little ones. After a while ahune will retreat into a shell, at this point you go all out dps on him. Once he comes out of the shell he will summon another big elemental, just do the same thing and thats the fight!

EDIT: forgot to mention my group make ups.
Group 1:
Feral druid tank
Feral druid dps (me)
Elemental shammy
Mage
Holy pally

Group 2:
Feral druid tank
Lock (me)
ele shammy
Resto druid
can't remember the other dps

Group3:
Pally tank
Lock (me)
Feral druid dps
Resto druid in boomkin gear
Holy pally

Group4:
Feral tank (me using dps gear lol)
Shadow priest
Ele shammy
Rogue
Holy pally

PS: WATCH FOR SWIRLS ON THE GROUND FOLLOWED BY LITTLE CHUNKS OF ICE! they spawn spikes. just keep moving and tanking!

melees: stay on the litlle ones, dps the boss when he comes out.
ranged: kill the big one, dps the boss.
tank: take the big one, help dps the litle ones.
healer: hmm...heal I guess? there's nothing too specific in this fight to a healer, I think.

Downed him 3 times as tank, 1 as healer and 1 as dps cat. pretty easy, imho.

Narroai, Do you remember in your runs how often the staff or chant dropped?

I have yet to go for my next batch of attempts but I really want both. Will I be living in SP for the next few days?

According to Wowhead, the staff has about a 1% chance to drop in regular mode, so you're not likely to see it. I still haven't seen the tanking cloak, and I've done the event ~10 times. Overall, the event isn't too bad if you understand how it works.

The strategy that I've found works the best is as follows:

Phase 1:
Ignore Ahune, unless he's retreated to his icy core (see Phase 2)
Tank picks up the rock elemental that spawns and tanks him.
DPS kills the non-elite water/air elementals - they have < 2k HP and will go down fast. Casters need to downrank spells accordingly to conserver mana.
If the DPS has time between waves of non-elites, they help out on the rock elemental
Everyone needs to be watching for the ice spikes. You can see these coming, as they start as mini frost novas on the ground. You have about 2 seconds to move out of the way before taking direct damage followed by fall damage.

Phase2:
Ahune will retreat to his icy core and take extra damage.
By this point all elementals should be dead, and all DPS should switch to the icy core.
A reasonably geared group of 70s should have him down in 2-3 cycles.

Healing is fairly mana intensive, but the group can help out tremendously by avoiding the ice spikes and staying away from Ahune during phase 1.

Good luck!

The information on WowWiki is pretty good. That's the strategy I have used, but to be honest it's all about how geared your DPSers are. Yesterday we killed it 5 times in 45 minutes (normal mode) which is pretty fast I believe.

Having a lock in the group who can one shot a bunch of adds with Seed of Corruption is a big help.

Druid healers would have rough time in there. It's best not to use ANY heal over time, because the adds will all go straight to you.

Druid tanks are the best since the key to winning this fight is DPS. I tanked the elite add and then switched to my dps weapon to finish the adds and for the boss on phase 2. The last fight, I even forgot to put my tanking gear back on and did it entirely in DPS/PVP gear. That was a fast win.

I have 3 capes so far, but no scythe for my moonkin :(
